Getting paid for straw ?

Of course there is,
Have you managed to get a loader that does not have the forks ratchet strapped to the carriage yet In your own words.
Twaaatts deal with twattsss and will be sucked in by a proportion of those they deal with, same for op as yourself. If you continually chase the elusive fiver you will be had and good for them.
Why would anyone need to be had as long as the person
you sell to is SOLVENT .

It’s pretty straightforward over here. Payment before anything leaves or is unloaded. There is a reason for that, as you found out.

The hay Jockeys ruined it for everyone

Even cull cows
Plenty have been caught by livestock dealers not paying either!

I feel like there’s 2 sides too every story and we are only getting 1 side 😬😬
3 side
Person A, person B and somewhere jn the middle the truth

You forever seek an extra fiver from a deal instead of continuing business with a proven individual you will be taken now and again, such is the territory.
I agree to stick with someone reliable that pays fair and clears the
straw quickly but if it's an unpaid debt that has been invoiced properly
extracting the money from solvent individuals isn't a problem.
The worst cases can be neighbours or associates where it puts you at
odds to taking that action, that's why I tend not to deal that way anymore.
You haven't burst any bubble I was talking in the context of selling straw
not other business dealings.

I hate to burst your bubble but there are people with lots of money who made it by being unscrupulous.

i actually have sold slightly below levels i know others have got locally to try build a relationship that works for all - clearly pointless though !

i discounted a big area of barley straw that got rained on despite that not really being my problem

its hard to see who we could be much more reasonable really …….. and this is the second year in a row payment has been seriously late, just not on imo

If I don't get payed I blame myself for being a fool , a bloody big fool in the past , one guy from Shropshire who is well known on Social media took me for a good few thousand , I will never get payed , one load is perhaps excusable , but giving him another load without first payment is maddness being a new customer I did not know , I damn well know him now
Go through the proper channels to recoup what's owed and make sure u learn from your mistake , it's taken me years to learn
Tarring straw dealers all with the same brush is bad form and not nice

Mind that means that all your other good paying customers carry that debt indirectly

In fact, it's the moorland cowboys are the real loons!

(We do quite a bit of nefarious doin's with a former Romanian cage fighter as it goes...but he's a pussy cat compared to some of the bruisers out over the veldt)

Yes I can vouch for that with two past experiences when
I was in the trade……… the families were related 🤣🤣🤣🤣 ……. But most of them are on the moor. You would know them @egbert They’m between me and you 😉

I only sell to two people, the next door dairy have the home farm and the outlying farm goes to a trusted merchant (friend) and from him i have had the same price per ton for the last four years, price was agreed at the start for a long term agreement, some i loose, some him. Payment has never been later than end Sept.

Did get had on some cattle a few years ago, I hope he reads this and works out who I am, as I have a long memory..................................................

Second year from the same person?

There are plenty of good reliable businesses in the straw game but dealing straw definitely attracts more than it’s fair share of shysters! Reliable customers year on year is the best approach even if it doesn’t mean you’re hitting top prices. At least you can rule out a load of hassle and worry.

You need to understand that there are professional non payers, they are not worth taking to court as they will make the first payment of £12 and then stop, necessitating the need to take them back to court, you will not beat them by legal means
What's your moddus operandi for slow / non payers ?

If you meet me you will know I don’t need one.
I lost a load a few years ago to a chap from Torquay that had a 10 acre holding and got divorced and borrowed a load of money from the Acorn finance chap at Taunton who repossessed everything and had the farmer and his 80 odd year old mother living in the cubicle shed because the 20 odd cattle they had were TB restricted and they were holding on there with that. I have never bothered since one visit as you cannot get what is not there. My one debt in 30 years of contracting.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
