Grain price graph/data

Can't find what I'm looking for on google - I'm after a graph or spreadsheet showing spot wheat prices, say monthly over the last few years, to get an idea of the average increase from harvest to winter/spring grain prices. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

AHDB would be a good place to start, Loads of info on there, I think you can even put recorded historic delivered prices in a graph.

link below, might be of use,

But if you are after something simple, this is essentially the wheat price dld based on UK futures give or take a few £'ss over the last few years

Good morning,

All of our ex-farm price data is available here - https://ahdb.org.uk/cereals-oilseeds/ex-farm-prices-summary

About two thirds of the way down the page is a "downloads" section which has a link for monthly and yearly prices.

Let me know if you were after something different and I'd be happy to help.

Kind regards
James

Is there a simple graph/chart that shows a September price and a June price for each year?

Have used May for 2020/21 to give an indication of the current season trend in the carry from Sep to Jun.

Kind regards
James

Thanks for the replies to this, sorry to not reply sooner. Seems there's quite a bit of data available (I had looked at the ADHB site before posting the thread but couldn't find exactly what I was after, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.)

The main reason I was asking about this was re my own situation - I can store most of my grain but generally have to move a few loads at harvest to make space. Looked into storage at a local store - which works out at getting on for £20/t including haulage etc, and didn't really have enough of my own data to work out the likely economics of it.

The harvest-winter-spring price variation is of considerable importance when it comes to business decisions, ie whether to build more storage/invest in central storage/when to sell etc, that I'm surprised that we don't see more graphs/data on that particular topic. I'm sure my dad used to quote what he reckoned was the average harvest-to-new year price difference but I can't remember what his figure was.

That sounds mighty expensive?

We generally work on £1 a month for cereals. Some years the carry is a bit less, sometimes a bit more.

The carry is the value of storing the grain for the extra month *on the day*. The spread of prices over the season is not the carry.

You build the shed based on:

The carry between selling at harvest Vs storing at the difference between the harvest and say may price *at the price you would have taken at harvest*.

Or

You build the shed to allow you to set a price later on. This is not an investment but a license to gamble.
