after reading that article I am absolutely tamping

Certainly, it needs shouted about. I think we're going to see a lot more of these sorts of articles in the near future.

There's no doubt about the carbon sequestration potential of trees but the ability of a food producing farm to sequester also needs to be pushed.

Won't make as many headlines for the green lobby if they just say carry on farming your grassland as you were its doing a grand job !
As opposed to we going to plant millions of trees aren't we goodies

Unless the people we pay levy to, to speak on our behalf, stop peddling the lie that trees are better than grassland, then the job is fudged.
