1966 was the last time a binder (Albion) was used on our farm.
Nearly always had some sort of stack around the yard
Remember dad using a stack net and weighting it down with bricks around the edges

Binder still here in 1967 as I first drove a Ford Dexta for my birthday. I was in heaven. I remember men opening up the field with scythe and hand-tying the sheaves. Must have been some a year or 2 later as well before moving to PTO driven 5 foot combine with the bags slid onto the ground for collection.

My first drive was aged 8 on a Dexta in 1964. I used to steer it along in low gear while my father pitched up bales to my uncle on the trailer. Saved my dad stopping every few yards and getting on and off the tractor. Heaven for me!

Binder was parked up in a shed, and we had a contractor combining with a Massey Harris 788 bagger, then a Claas SF unloading into Lupat grain bins mounted on Fergie three ton trailers. Seems like yesterday!

:) Same here - but my 'ride' was a 1961 MF 35.........I must have thought that much of it 'cos I had my photo taken with it on my first day at school........

Somewhere here there is flickering cine film image of me and a huge grin steering our Fordson Dexta around the stackyard.

In all honesty I really did think that I was akin to a leading protege of the Jim Clark School of Formula One Racing Driving, as somehow and against all odds I determinably hung on to the steering wheel while controlling a hint of rear end drift and inner wheel spin, and in a cloud of dust I did a breathtaking circuit of a three bay Dutch barn at 2 mph.
