Everyone has big crops Clive, hope you've sold plenty forward as price only going one way. Don't think zero-till conservation Ag is the definitive component of your pleasing yields. Most of our wheat zero-till post osr and beans has been great, but one block after spuds, soil wrecked, was so heavy combine speed was limited by header auger feed (not worth raising for 50 acres) There will be folk with huge yields following a power harrow combi, strip-till, zero-till, at the end of the day its down to the weather and soil structure, whether corrected by machine or preserved via zero-till on the right soils.

I didn’t say it’s the reason, without doubt for many this is a good year for wheat

I simply invited anyone who thinks conservation ag / Zerotill doesn’t or won’t work to come sit on my combine and take a look

Big difference but those that like to find excuses why conservation ag won’t work do like to put words in my mouth I’ve noticed

It’s always nice to harvest a big crop - sorry if that offends, I did avoid posting pub or FW quantification of my brilliance however

Do you want to take me up on my offer ? Be fast as all being well we should finish wheat tomorrow

Some is sold August 157-137 feed I don’t think the only way is down though - I’m holding the rest, have sold what we can’t - I think quality wheats especially have more upside than down right now

Finished harvest today with the last of the Planet spring barley, easily done 3t/ac which is pleasing as it really suffered in the dry weather this year. Combine didnt miss a beat. Early part of harvest went well getting the w barley, osr, peas and wheat all finished before the weather broke. 80ac of s barley has taken us 2 weeks but we got there.
Biggest 'issue' I guess you can call it was one of the 2 brothers that owns the farm and did 80% of the combine driving passing away at home one morning due to heart failure, 1/3 of the way through harvest. He had driven the combine just the day before and was working towards completing his 50th harvest in a row driving the combine since he was 18. Hopefully hes looking down on us now glad that we have completed an excellent harvest.

I'm never ever growing Gravity again, God forsaken variety!!!!
What reason ? Has it gone flat (Cant tell by photo) or yield .
Ive just done a field of Gravity and it was laid / storm broke and a fair bit had shed. Nice looking sample and yield not too bad, but dont know whether I'll give it another chance.
Kerrin in next field stood better and not shed so thonk ill favour that.

Clive, everyone has had great yields, perhaps most know not to gloat. We should hopefully be finished tomorrow barring breakdowns with just 80 acres left. I have to say I am somewhat surprised by how anyone in your part of the world would be with the weather your have had. How many acres wheat/osr/oats etc do you actually cut? Good to hear you sold all your feed wheat forwards for a change.

About 200 acres of wheat and 100 of barley left. Had a good few days having done just under 300 acres since Sunday evening.
Some of the wheat is good, some ok (actually good considering the blackgrass levels in it). Spring barley not so good but probably my fault for not knocking out the cover crop early enough.

Not a bad day yesterday, cut 60 acres of Graham from 11am to midnight including nearly 2 hours stopped for a broken auger chain. Heavy mist here this morning so won't be an early start.
Hope the weather forecast rings true, still got 500 acres of wheat to cut plus a few oats. Don't want to look at the Beans, can't get to cut them for a while anyway!

How badly are other people's crops suffering? I've yet to see anything sprouted but already seeing quite a few heads on the floor, and before anyone says it, I'm not hitting them off with the reel!

38% through the remaining area after the fortnight rain delay.
Wont be a productive day today though. Roller on the Baler broke yesterday and took the bearing with it. Our calve rearer is partying at the steam fair for the weekend so have 100+ calves to feed.
Miss Zippy been sick most of the night so am currently looking after Little Zippy..... I think feeding calves may be easier, definitely less messy!!

Weathered Planet germ tested at 98% last week. Lots of header ear losses in spring barley but the wheat looks ok. I haven’t tested any Hagbergs recently

The worst yielding wheat out of the 4 ive grown by some distance.
Like you said it had shed badly too,
its the only wheat that went down, and there s no money in growing flat wheat, had the same pgr program as the rest.
I'll be sticking with Reflection, best yielding wheat again,I know its a dirty wheat and not popular but its barn stiorming here sgain.

Didn't yet anything done Wednesday as it refused to dry below 16% and anyway we were tied up with getting pig sheds ready. Didn't start yesterday very soon as we were waiting around for pig lorries bring pigs in all day but did manage to get the spring barley finished off. It had breckled down quite badly but there was still enough high for the knife to get under it and we lost very few ears, cracking crop despite how it looked I the drought. It's doing a very good 3 ton which I'm amazed by and I just can't work out where it's all come from.

Dad will be back into wheat today 70 odd acre of deigo which has stood well and looks like it'll be pleasing yield wise, I'm flat out chasing combines here there and everywhere with the baler.
