Clive, everyone has had great yields, perhaps most know not to gloat. We should hopefully be finished tomorrow barring breakdowns with just 80 acres left. I have to say I am somewhat surprised by how anyone in your part of the world would be with the weather your have had. How many acres wheat/osr/oats etc do you actually cut? Good to hear you sold all your feed wheat forwards for a change.
17.5 percent. It's like the magic never drying wheat.
Odd day here today - it was just over 15 yesterday afternoon / night
This morning it started at 16.5 and has stayed there all day despite breeze and sun etc
Make no sense at all
You need patience , a commodity I have little of .High humidity?
Up here has been similar, but the breeze has just been pushing thick damp air around and the sun has been warming it up to make it even less pleasant.
I’m not gloating - just offering anyone interested a chance to come see us cutting some no till wheat - I think @Honest john took up the offer but I’ve bern so busy today I wasn’t in the field so didn’t see him myself
If it makes you feel any better our milling wheat yields were not good. I’m not sure it’s a great year for everyone ? I’ve heard @dontknowanything saying it’s his worst year ever and @Banana Bar say he had a few shockers - both those guys are top notch farmers, that dry spell early in did some damage to crops in some areas and on lighter souks us include I think
You must have been in the office making plans on how to spend the 1 mill capital allowance that nice mr Hammond allowed us.
we broke down. Thanks to incredible employees and a useful local dealer we were up and running in no time
Started the day with a combine breakdown ?
Clutch went on farm pickup when fetching spares, needed RAC to recover it
Contractor cart drivers and trucks stood about costing me a scary ammiunt per hour just to “wait”
Blocked dryer conveyor which lost us time and means by mid afternoon I had wheat EVERYWHERE it shouldn’t be
But on the bright side we are cutting some bloody good wheat ! And it’s even coming in dry now
You may be in luck, @Clive has taken up recreational cultivation recently?Do you have any split fields cultivation wise for comparison?.. if you have half a field ploughed and combi drilled I really would like a look.
We’re all too efficient nowadays, with the capacity farms have to cover ground quickly and get the crop in store. People willing to work all hours and pull out all the stops, prices will never be any good.
But Maybe I’m a bit peeved as our milling wheat is not a bumper crop and no we didn’t sell a thing forward this harvest!
I'd avoid Gravity! The name seems apt, as it is the only variety amongst Gleam and Kerrin that has fallen over.Wheat sub 15%.
Diego second and continuous wheat doing close to 4 ton acre, mountains of lovely bright long straw and a nice bold sample. After reading all the stories on here about the super duper new varieties like gravity, gleam ECT I can't really see a need to change just yet.
