I have also gained grazing, as well as losing the block I mentioned above. I suppose the answer is to be flexible about it if possible.I know somebody locally has GAINED land through SFI. Local arable farmer has put a block of land away from his main holding into herbal ley. And then letting grazing on it to a neighbouring tenant farmer(beef and sheep)
I spoke to a farmer today who is starting a large suckler herd from scratch to utilise herbal leys and build fertility.
But @Clive says that’s not happening .it obviously is it’s a payment direct to landowner who can now have a contractor to establish schemesIn the process of losing a block of ground but the option it has gone into is one of those recently capped at 25% of the land area.
Sadly my (very apologetic) landlord entered into it before the capping.
In his words ‘I can’t understand why they want to pay me so much for literally doing nothing’.
Luckily there is no shortage of grass round here.
