Have you Lost land to SFI etc???

In the process of losing a block of ground but the option it has gone into is one of those recently capped at 25% of the land area.
Sadly my (very apologetic) landlord entered into it before the capping.
In his words ‘I can’t understand why they want to pay me so much for literally doing nothing’.
Luckily there is no shortage of grass round here.
 
All our estate FBT and grazing tenants were given the boot 5 years ago when they decided to put it all into a stewardship scheme. I lost 100 acres out of 300, the rest either being our own or rented on an aha. Rather cheekily, they realised as termination date was approaching that it required grazing management, so they said I could have it back with restrictions and at double the rent, but I declined the offer as I had already set the stock reduction in motion, and 300 acres is more than enough working on my own at 60. I try to look at it pragmatically though, as I only had it on a yearly basis, but it was still a bit of a shock after 35 years. I guess they never had to rent it to me at all though.

Mrs Fred has just yesterday been given a pedigree ewe for our rare breeds flock by one of the breeders who has lost all her grazing (North Dorset) as her employer decided to put it all into sfi and wants the sheep out along with her shelters, etc, so the flock has to go.

I know somebody locally has GAINED land through SFI. Local arable farmer has put a block of land away from his main holding into herbal ley. And then letting grazing on it to a neighbouring tenant farmer(beef and sheep)

I have also gained grazing, as well as losing the block I mentioned above. I suppose the answer is to be flexible about it if possible.

I spoke to a farmer today who is starting a large suckler herd from scratch to utilise herbal leys and build fertility.

But @Clive says that’s not happening 🤷🏼‍♂️.it obviously is it’s a payment direct to landowner who can now have a contractor to establish schemes
