Have to roll all the bales in to the ditch to stop the kids from putting them down the bottom of the valley IMG_20210721_183926.jpgIMG_20210721_183933.jpg

Tyre was £1900, all baled now, different contractor ! From now on, that field is round bales only, we had trouble with the gateways silaging, ended up round baling half of it, first cut, and no chance of a wider gateway, which has 'lovely' stone built gate posts, 1 of which, now needs rebuilding ! All for 38, 6 stringers .
what machine was that ? seems a bit excessive !

Can you go fast enough for the sledge when following a rake.
Yes, goes a nice speed, about 3.5-4kph according to the dash. I find slower than 3kph the sledge can occasionally gum up. Try to get an even row and keep the baler full.
If it's right thin stuff I have the option to put 2 into 1 👍
Rake leaves a nice amount of room to get round with the baler.

I never like rowing up hay the day before, nice looking stuff though and a good crop
always move it before rowing as its damp from nigth before,

Weird we get a cracking weather window but some people around me have baled some super green shite, bet it will be right dusty charred rubbish that if their shed don't burn down, i honestly don't get some farmers 🤷‍♂️

400hp valmet, bought decent older 2nd hand tractors, that would have handled the baler, for less, than the tyre, ............ if it had a computer fitted. To be honest, not a lot of farms could warrant that size, let alone the lanes round here, all it means are comments like '#### rich farmers, ###### up all the lanes', and l sought of agree, back tyres were taller than me, 6ft1in, to big for country lanes

What a frustrating year. Yesterday the hay was 10% moisture, today, same field, same cutting day and everything with 2 more teddings too - 15% minimum. Sun shining all the time, must be the humidity.

It wouldn't be so annoying if we didn't have the haymaking forecast from hell this weekend. I just did 2 rows so that I had room to clear them up.

It may have something to do with rising damp too.

Anyone else starting to get a little concerned with how the weather is/forecast and how much there is still to do? Fully aware it's totally beyond anyone's control but we've barely scratched the surface with how much contract work we still have to do and about 70ac for ourselves.

Maybe I'm just reaching out for reassurance that I'm not the only one in this predicament. o_O

Feel your concern. I've got a concerning amount still to do and the last 5 dry days is frustrating, as I got baled up thurs afternoon in readiness of a weather breakdown that hasn't happened yet.

We seriously pushed on the last 2 weeks with boys and extra tedders subbed in, was expecting a monsoon on the weekend and into the beginning on this week and we've only really had a few showers. It's forecast that it should be emptying down as we speak but it's actually quite bright with the sun just about making an appearance.

How do you go on in a bad summer? It’s been a doddle here too this time
