Heath super chaser capacity

Been asked by a friend if I would consider chasing bales for him.

I would need to buy a chaser etc, he’s working on paying £2.50 per bale chased to a stack no more than 3 miles away. Price would be adjusted in 0.25 mile increments over 3 miles.

Realistically, now many bales can a decent operator chase in a day.

Any recommendations on a machine too? See a lot of fastracs but is the additional road speed really of a benefit over a 50k box.

I was thinking of taking the front linkage off and mounting the bar directly to the chassis rails. Can’t help but think with my luck I’d bend the linkage!

We used to run an Arcusin chaser , could do 800 to 1000 bales a day no problem , but with sh!t weather & straw to expensive to buy we sold the lot balers , chaser the lot & it was the best thing we ever did , you will find it hard to make money out of the straw job unless you get it for nothing

My lad runs a 12 bale super chaser on a 4220 , will send you his number , you will want a spare fastrac , he said
You will have to be sh!t hot and thrash it to death to do 4 loads an hour on 3 mile runs and have decent access and quiet roads 3 loads if through villages or rough tracks and been sensible , ,he picks up around 20000 ,
You want some thing that will go down field as fast loaded as it will empty ,

A good driver will do 80-100 an hour tipped at the field gateway, so 1.5 bales per minute. Use this to calculate how many you’ll do when you start hauling. Distance means very little, depends on the roads / tracks, houses etc etc.
A Super will carry 10 hesstons, an Extra will carry 12. Personally like a Fastrac as its smoother in the field.
round here the going rate is £2 / bale to the side the field or £150/hr as soon as you start hauling.

Why would anyone "thrash it to death" unless the rewards are so great that they pay to replace "thrashed" machinery?

Will rephrase it then You need your cap on backwards 🤦‍♂️ And need to get on , it’s hard on man , concentration and The rough fields. And tracks . Have you ever chased Bsles . You pick 20000 bales up with a 10 bale old style chaser with switches in stead of joy stick and Tractor with no suspension 20 years ago you knew you had done 18 hours on it ,every day for weeks

I think I would sooner just drive the bloke's tractor and chaser and have him pay me an hourly rate in all honesty. So you need a modern tractor, a fairly complex but 1 way wonder of a machine used for a few months a year at best and then you need to drive it flat out over rough ground day and night to make it pay?

Sounds legit....

No wonder I don’t make owt then, it’s a £1 bale to the field edge or £1.40 a bale on distance work that’s 120x70 or 120x90 !. Mines just sat in the yard dought it’ll move again now this year.

And make sure the tipping area is nice and level.
Most farmers give you the rough end of the yard, full of last winters ruts, and expect fuc51ng miracles from you.
Best we had, when I helped out a contractor, was Fastrac on the chaser. Then we gave over doing haulage with what was designed as a ‘field clearance machine’ as the distances became ridiculous. Next best thing was a front loader on the tractor to build a good steddle to start with, and just clear fields, sometimes 2 into 1.
Then to do it even easier, he sold the Heath ( Robinson ) chaser, and gout an Arcusin.

Ah but that’s QM work, more bales on a load, more bales per hour (around 130) so £1.50 / bale for those here.
