I don't have the chart to hand but have data showing a Trend towards more intense rainfall. Think it was met office.

Wettest harvest 1985 for me took 2 months to dry 100 tonnes of barley in an on the floor dryer.All had to be outloaded half way through to mix and dry the top. Barley cut in late October not fit to sell until January. Made my decision for me and joined a coop 4 years later which now has 5 modern dryers. With todays climate you must have access to modern dryers.

2012 was wet through the whole summer and not just the autumn which made it so challenging. i wasnt farming in 2000 so cant comment about that year- was it as wet through the summer as 2012?
according to that chart its was a LOT wetter than 2012 - I can't recall what July / august was like though
in 2000 we only got 5% of our wheat drilled - in 2012 we got 90% drilled so it wasn't so bad with hindsight
this year is no fun so far but I don't think it's as bad as 2012 and certainly not 2000 yet

For rainfall specifically in the autumn we have had more than both 2012 and 2000 now in 2019
Can't remember what 2000 was like, all winters seemed bad back then when we grew winter veg. The only year that stands out for me was 2002. Bloody awful spring and summer. Planted 1.5 ton/ acre of potato seed, which yielded only 3 ton / acre

That must have been the year I saw snow on stooks of oats just above Dufftown. I think they did actually get it in, by hanging the sheaves on the fence to dry out! They would have been stacked later and fed whole to cattle outside.

322mm here for Sept and Oct this year, most of that down to the last week in Oct when we had flooding. 2007 was much worse. Even in a small country like Britain there can be a large difference across the country for rainfall, sunshine hours, max/min temperatures in a single day. I have always been suspicious of UK MO averages.

Autumn 2000 was followed of course by foot and mouth. We did well getting our trials drilled and looking good, considering the conditions. Then in spring we couldn't show them off to anyone as all meetings were cancelled.

I recall more wet years than dry.
‘97,’98,’00 all much the same, fairly poor springs and Autumn. 2002 was diabolical.
‘07 was terrible, so too ‘09 ‘12’
‘13,’15 and ‘17 wet years too. Without exaggeration it rained almost every single day of 2017.

I think we started harvesting potatoes on light Lincolnshire Wold on the 7th November with 2 Reekie Cleanflows each towed by 2 tractors. I think we abandoned 15 acres of potatoes until the spring but the latter part of November was kind enough to get around 115 acres up before the cold weather
How can they possibly produce figures like this for England and Wales, is it average of all records or what , the only real statistic is surely what is actually measured in one place. For example, I have “only” measured 214mm here this September and October but it is still very wet if not as wet as some other places quite local to me.

2012 was wet from April onwards. Dreadful year, more fallow in 2012 than any other year here until this year I expect.
In 2012 we suffered 4"of rain in less than 24 hrs here on July 13th which we never recovered from till the following spring but I think we still had more drilled up by now in 2012
