year 2000 !!!
anyone that farmed through that (especially grew spuds) deserved a medal! - the year I near decided I should probably just go get a job in a bank! The year that ended my first marriage
young pups talk about 2012 but I note its 48th vs 2000 in 2nd place!
Seems 2000 was he wettest year any farmer still alive has ever farmed through
2012 was wet through the whole summer and not just the autumn which made it so challenging. i wasnt farming in 2000 so cant comment about that year- was it as wet through the summer as 2012?
according to that chart its was a LOT wetter than 2012 - I can't recall what July / august was like though
in 2000 we only got 5% of our wheat drilled - in 2012 we got 90% drilled so it wasn't so bad with hindsight
this year is no fun so far but I don't think it's as bad as 2012 and certainly not 2000 yet
I wasn't very old but apparently in1976 spuds were planted and didn't get any rain until harvest and then the heavens opened and turned the fields into a shitpit.
Interesting to see this October the wettest in history.(unless I've missed something)
I think we started harvesting potatoes on light Lincolnshire Wold on the 7th November with 2 Reekie Cleanflows each towed by 2 tractors. I think we abandoned 15 acres of potatoes until the spring but the latter part of November was kind enough to get around 115 acres up before the cold weatheryear 2000 !!!

With thanks to Peter Gadd on Twitter the following chart for info
In 2012 we suffered 4"of rain in less than 24 hrs here on July 13th which we never recovered from till the following spring but I think we still had more drilled up by now in 2012according to that chart its was a LOT wetter than 2012 - I can't recall what July / august was like though
