Anyone ever built there own have any tips or advice?

Planning making some to put on a 18t smyth trailer.

Would mesh do instead of sheets of steel? Have some spare.

Wouldn't use mesh, but there were trailers that used corrugated iron as side sheeting, light, cheap and worked well.

Definitely.

Yes just basicaly copied the manufacturer’s ones . I dont think id be arsed to do it again id trade trailer for one that comes with a free set as they do

Just a little, will probably look worse than it actually is.

I'm sure I've seen mesh used on back doors (marshal?) in the past, although was quite tight mesh, nearer 1" rather than 2". Also seen it used on the front so you can see in.

My old man made ours one piece to lift on and off with the tele, messing about with individual sections is a nightmare.

It isn't often the chopper is blowing hard against side. Spout normally angled down. Might put a blow board at top to blow against for last bit.

Ours were fully roofed in for blowing to the back whilst being towed by chopper.

1” mesh would be fine imo. Once the grass is blowing against it it walls itself up.

Corrugated tin sheets are a pain in the rear.

Plywood or steel sheet, although we had two Triffit Trailers with full 25mm mesh back doors which coped well enough.

They are impossible to keep tightly fastened, end up with elongated holes, and rattle and bang, even in a Q cab they make a hell of a racket.

Strange, I used a trailer years ago completely clad in corrugated iron, including the floor, never a problem. Plenty of Irish farms seem to use a modern equivalent.

I would put some of this on the mesh.

Soon to be the farmers best friend. The cheapest recycled plastic sheet suitable for use in agricultural and domestic projects.

Light and relatively cheap and tough. Only my opinion though from sitting in the chopper seat and trying to get as much in the trailer as possible.
