Haven't used it in about 12 months and now it won't start

Turn key, solanoid clicks, if you leave it on the car for a while it turns over but doesn't fire

Can I put the positive on the battery and the negative on the engine block? I can't access the starter without taking things off it

Combination of things from being parked up. Battery has died and the carb is probably caked up with old fuel. Check you have spark, put all fresh fuel and if you can get it turning over nice and fast trying some Easy start might fire it. Slop some Redex in the fuel as well it will help

Before I say anything, advice to the OP, charge the battery as a first step. OK, thread hijacker here! Here's my tale of woe.

I have the same quad. 2006 TRX 350. It has suspiciously been running fine, starting on the first turn of the key every day. Well, I suspected that wouldn't last!

Started up as usual on Thursday and I backed it out of the shed. The engine died. Nothing would bring it back to life. By means of pulleys, ropes, and ratchet straps, I got it under cover in the shed and started to strip it down. Got the plastic off and remembered that the last time something like this had happened, the main jet had worked loose. So I took the top off the carburettor and took the needle out. Everything looked fine, so I put it all back together again. The quad fired up and ran perfectly!

Tried to start the quad up this morning and it won't start. Back to square one. I am assuming it must be dirt in the carb or something and it will have to be stripped down and cleaned out?

Could be the float stuck and not letting fuel in. Blow down the fuel hose ,see if anything budges

Are we talking about the newer transverse engine bikes or the old Big4X? Mine is the latter, and a new 12v fuel lift pump sorted mine. The old pump still works connected to a battery, but with an intermittent fault.

Is that a 420? Think 350 was gravity fed from memory

Come to think of it,there might be a filter in the tank tap . Might be wrong, we've had several Honda quads over the years, could be another one.
Fuel is coming out the carb end of the fuel pipe, so filter is OK. I had dirt in the carb before when it stopped, so took it off and cleaned it. That sorted it. I'd normally put some compressed air through it but the compressor is broken.:(

Put a new plug in it before you go nuts with anything else.

Modern plug designs can be pretty fickle.

Oh, and check the oil level to ensure it hasn't been putting petrol in the sump.

Reminds me of the old song "there's a hole in my bucket "

Done. The old plug was so coked up I am surprised it worked at all!
Our 500 was doing that from over fuelling. Dealer sorted it for a while with a new needle valve which had worn thin but the hole had worn as well. Put a new carb in the end. In all fairness , she'd done 60,000 km without an issue. Then I rolled it gathering the hill and wrote it off a month later☹️
