Lack of supply is a good point. The tractor hasn’t done any hours yet. The dealer is proposing £16 per hour that the demo will have done over the price of a brand new one, and it is envisaged that the tractor will do c. 300 hours before I can have it.
Will it really be demoing for 300 hours? For under £5k tell them you'll have a new one now.
What kind of muppets will be putting 300 hours on a demo tractor by pulling too big implements, too fast just to kill it?
At least when I buy a used tractor I know it has been around the village 3 times!
The one we had was used to do the slurry tanking and some mowing on the dealers own farm and then was on his stand at a couple of shows where we saw it. Came to us with 50 hours on the clock and we ended up keeping it. Dealer said if agco asked tell them it's done 300 hoursA demonstor used to be a factory spec model ,bog standard and no extras,,only when somebody bought did it get the toys added extra spools, wirring conections more lights ,different size tyres.
By the time it's been round umpteen farms and had every driver from 18-80 trying it out and then been back in the workshop for a full service, replace parts and valeted ,all those costs are going to add up .
The discount is soon wiped out.
Probably because they know if all dealers don't offer a demo machines then farmers don't expect to get one. Must say that the local duetz dealer has a few demo machines at the moment. Plenty of ex demo imperments were around when dealers had stock. In my over 35 years experience of working in agriculture in Australia ( I am 56 & grew up on a farm ) I can honestly state I have NEVER seen a “demo” tractor . . .
for most of my career, you order a tractor you want to buy & about 6 months later ( or more ) it turns up . . .
