How to shift a 23 ton shipping container?

Thinking a wee bit latterly here, could you put the crane down the track with enough reach to lift of the artic on the road, swing the container round 170 degrees and lower to ground, resite crane and repeat till on site?
That's what I thought but crane firm said they wanted their machine next to genny site and wagon right up to it.
Given that they are W. Cumbrian I thought a bit of graft might not hurt but lifting , setting down then shifting , restrapping and moving again isn't what they do.
I'm going to be honest and say that I am starting to tire of folk saying I'm not doing this and I'm not doing that and by the way its £1300 a day.

You would think that if you were paying for a days hire they would do as you asked. No wonder you are getting fed up.

I've got a 23 ton container 10 foot 8 inch wide by 32 foot long to move from Chesterfield to CUmbria.
Because it is wider than a standard container I am told that a double hiab truck won't handle it, even dropped to the ground right next to the wagon.
I don't really want to hire a crane if I can due to the cost (quoted over a grand a day) , does anyone know of a wagon that could handle this load or have any good ideas?
The container contains a a large diesel generator and is worth quite a lot of money so dropping the clutch and setting her onto tyres is out!
Can't you empty it so it weighs less ?

25 tonnes over a 100m shouldn't be too difficult, after all it has all been done before. But I don't know about the road trip!

Rather than lifting the container in one go, could one end be levered up (or hydraulic jacks), then supported? Repeat for the other side...an inch at a time... until you've reached the required height? Then back a lorry under it?

Archimedes said, "Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world".

The biggest of Stonehenge's stones, known as sarsens, are up to 30 feet (9 meters) tall and weigh 25 tons (22.6 metric tons) on average. It is widely believed that they were brought from Marlborough Downs, a distance of 20 miles (32 kilometers) to the north.
