Doesn’t affect us. Just the USA as google in Europe is a different business to google in America. Same company but different registration. May filter out this way in the future but not now. It’ll only affect new phones in the US in the coming months. You’ll be unaffected.

I'm not sure that's entirely the case; it's not just Google software from the US that is in their phones; there are a number of hardware components that are US sourced that may well be affected by the ban too. There's a BBC article here which suggests 2 front end modules and the storage maybe affected; I guess the storage may be relatively easy to work around but I'm not so sure about the other components.

Obviously this won't affect any phones already built as they already contain these bits but I wonder if the longer term supply of their phones into countries which are not part of the Trump games may also be significantly affected?

I don't know why they are singling out Huawei when they all manufacture in China

You can manufacture in China and not engage in crimes like Huawei (and not have the company entirely under Chinese government control). But sure, other Chinese companies are the same, but Huawei is by far the biggest. Just like Google, Facebook are under attack (for privacy etc) even though many other smaller companies do the same.

Any current phone will receive updates for at least 2 years but after that Huawei will not get any more android updates so then they may have to switch to their own operating system.

If you like the Huawei i wouldn't be terribly worried about keeping the phone.

I have a Hawei router and I am convinced it is filtering my internet by blocking some sites.
I can turn it off and use my iphone as a hotspot and be able to connect to the “blocked” sites. Both use a Three sim.

Despite all the sensational headlines around our national cyber “security” BT are still installing Huawei gear on fibre to premises installs.

Had one installed last week as a matter of fact.

...and I must say your new suit is looking fetching President Jinping :ROFLMAO:

This last year or so has seen me leave my farm a bit more and out into the wider world. What has struck me most is that nobody seems to know their arse from their elbow and nobody seems to care.

It’s up and running now so probably too late to do anything
Yes , otherwise you'll be invaded by the chinese and held for a billion pound ransom ....

It's a phone ....
She was already a huawei user so happy with the setup.

Just a phone nowadays seems to be your connection with the world, if google withdrew android support immediately she would have had a worthless piece of plastic and a contract to maintain.

FWIW I also have a huawei and it is a worthless piece of plastic, spends more time in the repair shop than my pocket, having moved over from many years on the windows system trying to get much out of an android is proving hard work, and every time the phone needs fixing the sim goes back in the windows phone so my brains in the mixer atm.

Huawei “ONT” (modem) for fibre to premises install. As it was still in its box.

I understand all the new BT Group fibre exchange gear is Huawei too.

So there you go, Chinese are spying on us, Russians f**king up our GPS...
