If you tell lies you'll get caught out eventually

Bought a young jersey bull once he was bred from gannon who turned out to have a bit of holstein bull had a cert but parts of his parentage was missing from cert .
Gannon fiasco nearly finished the JCS off. Some would say it SHOULD have done. Particularly as he had been used fairly heavily on Jersey Island where cross breeding isn't permitted by statute. The resulting progeny had to be slaughtered or exported off the island. Nowadays the JCS issue a list fairly regularly of bulls which are passed for use in the UK, and are promoted as Jerseys, but the progeny are not eligible for registration as pedigree!
It all comes down to breed societies trying to make themselves more important than they are. If they all disappeared overnight, the cattle wouldn't perform one iota different. Either dairy or beef.

It won't make a bit of difference to the Commercial Trade. Since when did street-wise commercial farmers believe that pedigree claims in any breed weren't subject to a bit of poetic licence.

Are there bulls forward with Jaegerbomb in their back breeding?
They wouldn't have been able to enter them as their pedigrees would have been revoked. Procters were advertising a lovely bunch of bulls by Jaegerbomb on Facebook last month, they'll all have to go for commercial use.
Anyone got jaegerbomb semen?
It'd be fine for commercial cows, suppose the Handleys would have plenty.

Charolais are DNA verified on both sides of the pedigree .. not sure about other breeds.

I understand the Blue Society will introduce DNA testing on all calves born from next January goino forward. I’d say 85% of our herd is already DNA verified as we do so much ET work, so don’t think we’ll be getting any surprises!

Which, when you think about it, is appalling. Why should commercial farmers not be able to have confidence in those they buy seed,-stock from?

Of course they should - to suggest otherwise implies that we are collectively ingrained liars, and personally, I find that quite offensive. And I believe that the majority of honest breeders would feel that way too.

The grubby actions of a few deluded individuals that don't appear to have the sense they were born with, shouldn't tarnish the entire tribe.

If I didn’t have confidence in the integrity of the breeder, I wouldn’t be buying from him, whether pedigree or crossbred stock. End of.
Dead right. I was discussing with a friend about potential purchases recently, and we both agreed that we would avoid a certain pool of stock for the very reasons you describe above.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, a dodgy reputation doesn't necessarily harm you in breeding circles, if you're already established enough. But that's the kind of hassle that I don't need. Other people can gamble if they want, but I just shut people down immediately if I think they're trouble.

We’ve bought three stock tups from Northern Ireland and have said “never again” and “if you see me bidding on a tup from Northern Ireland shoot me” Probably unfair, probably prejudicial, probably tarring them all with the same brush, it was only three after all. But we were totally convinced.

This year we were in on 20k on a lamb that went on to make 48k. Guess what...he was from Northern Ireland.
