Is it legal to import seed from other EU countries ?

if so is there a process to follow ?

I have a feeling we have had German and French grown OSR seed here in the past but not sure ?

I thought most OSR was foreign....earlier harvest that way.

Bound to be a huge amount of paperwork to it I would think.

There has been many cases of British seed sold in ireland so I doubt it's illegal

this is cover crop seed im looking at - way cheaper than Uk prices but not sure what paperwork I would need to go about importing it

too late for this year probably but could benefit a lot of farmers via TFF Farm Marketplace if I could get it legally to the UK

Fairly sure there is imported seed for many crop types.... vetch is imported from ex-eastern block for mixing in UK cover crop mixes.

Don’t know process.

With a vat receipt and EU ticked and sewn up bag you can just bring it in. Ring DEFRA helpline.

No problem of importing from the EU although I'd like a sight of the germ test and purity test and hopefully those results relate to the seed that is to be purchased.

No, not all, UK crop has now all but been harvested, graded, germ tested and bagged we'll probably see new seed available next week.

For forage crops look at the green label and the lot number, DE=Germany NZ=New Zealand.

No, not from the big seed houses who check the germ every 6 months.

Edit: Everyone who's sown ST before 2nd week (?) August will have used the previous years seed.

Re-packed, Dekalb probably brought the seed into the country in bulk then did the necassary tests as any good company would do then pack in the approproiate bag size.

£33.33kg a very expensive bulk load.
