imported values

I know it's a fashionable soundbite to suggest that UK ex-farm prices plateau when the millers and crushers start importing cheaper grain, pulses and rapeseed from abroad, but is it actually true? Does anyone have cast iron proof that the imported stuff is grown to lower standards than ours?
And even if they do and it is grown to a lower standard, do the buyers or the public even care?

I think you are asking two separate questions, is imported grain cheaper and is it grown to lower standards ??

Global prices are dependent on Supply and demand, sometimes it’s cheaper and sometimes it’s not !! This past year being a net importer has dragged prices up, a few years ago ( ‘18 ??) Frontier imported cheap Ukrainian wheat before harvest than suppressed prices for the following months

As for standards, if you consider that non EU countries we import from can use many pesticides that are deemed too environmentally unsound or unsafe to be authorised here then yes they are lower standard, they may well have been stored in less desirable storage conditions - Aus mice plague ?? outside Ukrainian heaps ??

Does anyone care ?? Apparently yes until there’s a need to import !!

AIC don't care, they are happy for such imports to be used in the UK instead of RT assured cereals.
