Can anyone tell me what this is, first time I noticed it this year, there are several ring/circles about 10ft diameter in one field..

Probably mushrooms or some other fungi as they bring minerals to the top of the soil. This is one with the mushrooms still visible.

Its the evidence of the fungal body that produces mushrooms. The fungus lives underground and slowly consumes organic material in the soil, and in doing so releases nitrogen, hence the darker grass. The ring gets slowly larger over time as the fungus eats its way outwards in all directions through the soil.

I know ornamental gardeners don't like the aesthetics of fairy rings, but presumably they're no bother?
