is re-plating machinery legal

I bought a 'shop soiled' Strimech shear grab from Rea Valley Tractors. it looked in good condition with barely any wear to the paint on the blade and the plate read 2019. 6 weeks ago the welding on the blade tore catastrophically. Not the steel but the poor welding. It was `13 months old when this happened... but having owned it for only 6 months I hoped to get some help from a reputable dealer such as rea valley tractors. I phoned rea valley and sent pictures and made many phone calls, but received no call back whatsoever. I decided after 5 weeks to phone Strimech themselves, who told me the serial number was wrong, the machine had been in to them to have work done on it and was originally a 2017 but had been re-plated. how is this legal???

Presumably they did it so they could punt it back out of the door as a new machine otherwise what is the point?

On the basis that it is as good as new and they warranty it like a new machine shouldn't be too much of an issue but very shady practise I agree

I don't suppose RVT would be too happy about being given old kit rebadged to sell either?

from what i could gather it was rea valley who sent it in to strimech to get some work done on it. although what extent i dont know. it seems wrong to sell a 2.5yr old machine that has needed to be sent in for work to be done on it, and replated, as a shop soiled machine.

So it was 2017 with repair rather than 2019 shop soiled? In my book shop soiled means new unused but has been hanging about in the yard for a while, anything else is at best ex demo... send it back for full refund or trading standards getting a call(better check it is actually illegal what they’ve done).

Strimech just get worse and worse imo🤦‍♂️

There service is awfull. Up until just before they lost the xform deal with eastern I got on ok with them and didnt see why others slated them😳

I was fobbed off with a xform muck grab with bad paint, they resprayed it (blew a thick coat over it🙄) there was a phase where paint was very poor.

Then it was stolen while attached to machine🙈

Replacement ordered and they replaced it with a prototype xform that had bolt on brackets🤦‍♂️ they kept coming loose so after alot of moaning they said we'll replace it.

What came was a strimech prototype copy of the xform which then had ram seals always leaking as they use crap seals🙄.

About this time I ordered a xform bucket for another customer.
What came was there prototype copy of xform bucket which didnt even fit the Sanderson headstock🤬
That got sent back cause I wouldnt pay for it and they couldnt supply me the xform as they had fell out with Eastern Attachment that make make them.

Eastern kindly supplied me direct with the bucket customer had ordered from me. With no issues.

I am trying to figure out what's going on , first RVT are not replying to your calls which is suspicious to say the least . I thought RVT are the dogs
bollox of dealers
Why would a machine from a top quality maker like strimech need to be
returned for repairs and then have sh!t welding carried out
I remember many years ago there was a strimech. advert in the farmers weekly offering a prize to anyone that broke or bent one of their products

Well a satisfactory resolution has been met by Strimech, Just waiting for the new machine to be made now. Brilliant customer service from Paul there who replied to emails almost instantly. Rea Valley, I am assuming are still in business? Not heard a peep out of them, they must have too many customers, I really do hope I've helped out with that situation.
