Third time in 6 months Manchester and Edinburgh airport have gone down. First it was the passport gates and then the luggage handling system.

Tech guy on the radio this morning said it's because one of Microsoft's security systems ran an update and it didn't work. And they have no redundancy in their server system to take up the slack. Ridiculous.

It's run by hampers on a wheel and thick old copper cable
Yes it actually is just about. The tech guy said because all of the systems are so interlinked from ticketing to baggage handling and everything else across the entire global transport network, that it's nearly impossible to update any part of it without everything else going down.

IIRC the NHS are still running Windows XP. Possibly because it works and it doesn't do bloody updates every day 🤬oh the good old days!

Sister and family travelling home from Spain today, delayed in the airport, and been given hand written boarding passes.

Just spoken to local sports centre and their systems affected too.
