Ivomec

Hi, just bought some ewe lambs, and have jabbed them with ivomec as one of the bunch was scratching and had a brown patch on its neck, but after a few days it still hasn't improved, do I jab with cydectin as someone mentioned it was better? I would prefer to dip them but there is only 20 in the batch and I doubt the dipper man would bother coming to do so few.

From dim and distant memory, it was one jab of doramectin, or two of ivermectin. Can't remember the timings for the second, sorry.

I would have a word with the Vet to check it isn't something other than scab, or maybe with the Correctly Qualified Bod at the merchant where you buy your PLMs from. Agreed that calling in the Dipper for 20 might be difficult, but perhaps more costly to set up than unwilling to come out.

Get a test incase its lice as injectables wont work if it is

If its scab one jab of ivomec should stop them scratching initially, but need a second to cure it properly. If still scratching after first jab suspect something else ie. Lice or resistance to ivermectin.

I have never heard of successful lice treatment with injectable Invomec, but it does treat rams very successfully for clearing up scrotal mange which is caused by a mite. Two treatments about 14 days apart.
Be wary about the use of this chemical as it has one of the worst reputations for rapid build up of resistance by worms.

Dectomax kills scab but has no cover so all sheep need to be moved that day and no mixing with other stock. It does work but needs carful handling
