Hi guys. I am new to this forum. Recently purchased a JCB 531-70 telehandler, and noticed that the front axle is getting too hot when driving on the road. The machine has 1500 hours on the clock and it is produced 2013. Anyone else have the same problem?Don't know whats wrong with it. Checked the oil in the front axle and it is full. Also the machine was serviced soon, regarding the seller. Any advice would be useful! Thanks!

Not sure how can I check them. If I lift the front tyres in the air, and turn each wheel by hand?

lift axle up, you should be able able to spin the wheels through the diff. Will be some resistance mind but should be able to do by hand.

Also could be the handbrake seized up, thats a disc on the front of transmission on old ones unless you got a 5 or 6 speed trany then its in side the front of gearbox.

Our 535-60 used to concern me with hot front axle on road also but oil was always clean and no obvious problems when checked out. Our solution was to change oil and replace with correct grade with the anti squawk. Only front axle driven on road so it will get a bit hotter than rear anyway

Will try this later. Is it good idea to lift it with the shovel? Also if I am able to spin the wheels by hand and without much resistance , is that mean that the problem is not in the brakes? And if they didn't spin easy is that sign of brakes problem? Another question come in my head: how can I know if it is the handbrake or the main brakes? The transmision of the telehandler is 4 speed power shift.

You mean the hot axle may be caused from wrong oil? My front axle getting so hot that it can't be touched by hand. Was yours the same and how better is it after the oil change?

Yes my axle was getting very hot to touch. Best thing to do for a start is drain the oil into a clean drum and see what comes out. If there is filings and oil dirty then you have a problem, but if it’s clean then replace it with correct spec. As for handbrake go underneath and have a look or park on a slight incline and check operation eg put handbrake of with transmission in neutral and it should move then stop when you pull it on again pretty simple set up if it’s the same as mine
