JD 6610 pto problem

JD 6610 slipping out of pto. My son said he has to push the pto lever/button back down and lift it again to start the pto when it disengages itself. It doesn't always come back into gear first time. Thinking the trouble is in the switch but has anyone else had the same problem? The tractor is on the feeder so it's a bit of a pain at the moment.
Any ideas before I go poking around please?

First of all try the solenoid, swap it from the difflock, if that makes no difference then it could well be the switch, if not the switch then it could be the mosfet in the bcu, but that could take a while to sort by the time its sent to david kings.

Now Then..
It's often the PTO switch. Is it a Premium type tractor or an SE??
On a Premium type tractor, the codes are accessible through the screen. See the operators manual for details..

Premium type. Thanks, I'll check codes when I get a few minutes to myself.

Solenoid on back, had to replace ours on 6910 (if it's same) 3 times in about 8000 hours, no idea why keeps failing but it's in a position that gathers debris/water so maybe that...

Same symptoms every time, pull up PTO knob and it'll work for few seconds/minutes and drop out, or sometimes won't engage at all. Save yourself £80 on the switch till you check solenoid... Have a switch laying around on shelf here...

Read this-

this was a thread a week or so ago about diff lock problem. Swap the solenoids as described. This is a common fault and looking at it this way means you don’t waste money on parts that are still serviceable.

Have a similar problem with my 6210. When engaging PTO, it takes a few twists to the button to get it going. Will then run for about 2-3 minutes and stop, the blue lamp starts flashing. Then turn off switch and repeat a few times to get it going. Have tried to swap leads with diff.lock. pto runs as long as I can keep my foot of the brake. Therefore i assume the solenoid is ok. Also replaced pto speed sensor.

Have you tried the switch?

Have searched a bit online and it seems like there is three leads. One hot (+12v) and one that is powered when pto is engaged, and one wich is powered when pto disengages. Will try to figure out which is what.

Now I've measured the switch, it seems to work as intended. Will my problem create any fault codes except from the blue (!) flashing? Because I can't find any codes. I have two yellow lights flashing occasionally. The battery symbol and the yellow central warning.

Have you taken any land out of production from last autumn?
