John Deere 6310 No forward Shuttle.

Hello, I was doing some light topping today and right at the end of 2hrs work my jd6310 lost all forward Momentum but Reverse is working fine in all ranges of the powerquad. The right hand Shuttle lever for the power quad is moving all the linkage as it should and feels normal. I then noticed the oil in the rear end had dropped off the dipstick (topped it up about 1week ago) So i filled it back up with Morris JDF oil in the hope that it would Restore my forward shuttle but still nothing.

Is it possible it has an airlock if the oil got to low or Does it sound more Serious?

Any Advice would be fantastic! Thankyou!

Now Then..
How much oil did you have to put in?? You must have an implement with an oil leak??
Do you have any warning lights??
Just to put you at ease,,,,, an airlock is unlikely, something more serious is probable.... 🤔

5l of oil into back end then let her idle for abit and reversed her round the field and then another 2.5l of oil to bring it back up on dipstick, shes only had the topper on her for months i did notice a couple of drips under the powerquad but no puddles in the shed where shes parked up at night. Thankyou for putting me at ease!

5 litres shouldn't be off the dip, nor 7.5. It should be on the mark parked level, arms down first thing in the morning kinda thing with the engine off obviously. Screw the dip in to test too

She's still stuck in a field far from home at the moment so I'll have to check the oil again when I get her back, not ideal, My second year doing abit of topping contracting as a hobby.

Left hand or right hand reverse lever ?

could be electrical fault if it’s left hand ( on the steering column)

if not, sounds like it’s a gearbox out job....

Ive run ours low of oil countless times to no ill effect ....

Right hand reverse all mechanical linkage, it looked/sounded/feels like its all working fine so yes sounds like Box out job:cry:

Just had a mechanic out today and we've come to the conclusion oil has leaked into part of the box that it shouldn't be in, hence why I lost so much oil so quickly, currently looking for someone to take it out and recondition/ fix it in mid wales.

Just finished rigging up a guage and it sits happily around 28-30psi when I move the shuttle either way she drops to 20psi then climbs back to 25-28psi in about 5 seconds.

You'll need to drain all the oil as you need the suction line off which comes from the bottom of the differential housing. It's not bad to catch cleanly.
The gasket plate can be re used but the gasket may be your problem. Take it off and assess It's condition. All parts are available overnight
