John deere 6310 transmission problem

A john deere 6310, 2001 left hand reverser, perfect yesterday but went to start today and suddenly got the low pressure transmission/hydraulic oil light illuminated on the dash with the stop light, and now drive to the drive to the tractor due to this problem

I'm thinking maybe a sensor issue as can't see anything wrong? How do I get to sensor, got cab floor panel up but is it a tilt cab over job? It's currently in a field away from home so would like to get it going and not tilt cab in field although we have done it before!

Any ideas?

The sensor is just above the transmission filter housing at the front of the power quad, there's two together the lower one is for filter restriction. If it's an original sensor you'll need a short 30mm spanner (these sensors are prone to failure) the new sensors are 15mm. It's a bit of a fiddle but can definitely be replaced with the cab down. Try looking under the cab on the exhaust side.

Number 12 is the transmission pressure sensor

So the tractor still drives??. The best thing is to put a gauge on system pressure and check that- pressure at 1000rpm will be 170-190psi depending on where the pressure reg is set and how good the trans pump is.

If pressure is good then assume the pressure sensor is failing. As above for where the sensor is above the filter head.

There is another one underneath ( covered by a protective plate) that senses the pressure in the left hand reverser. As above if it is 30 mm across the flats it's the old design. Symptoms of it failing are that the tractor won't hold in drive on the LHR but if you hold the lever forward ( or reverse) and manually hold it there it will drive OK. Replace with the new design and you'll never have the problem again.

Replaced sensor number 12 in above diagram and still got the problem, tractor won't drive, left hand reverser won't hold in direction,

Haughty sensor would cure it? Any more ideas?

Yes pressure light still on with new sensor so no change tractor was driving 100%, drove into yard, left overnight, started next day, light on.

Oil and filter done in September.

Dose the light go out if you rev it up? Is the steering and hydraulics working ok?
Really need to be putting a gauge on the transmission pressure test port at this point and rule out electrical faults.
Could be a valve stuck or even a blocked suction screen in the back end. Sometimes the brake linings de-laminate and block the screen. Gauge is definitely the next step.

Revving it up makes no difference, steering and hydraulics are all working fine. Dealer coming Monday afternoon but I'm desperate to be using it.

If you've replaced the pressure sensor and the transmission pressure light is still flashing then chances are there is no pressure. You could try unplugging the sensor, if the light goes out it will rule out an electrical fault in that circuit.
If that's ok I'd check the suction screen under the rear left axel is clean (means dropping the back end oil). If that's clean chances are either the transmission pump has failed or a valve is stuck.
You could also check the pressure regulation valve and spring, it's a 27 mm fitting in the bottom of the transmission about 3" deep. Carful not to loose an shims out of it though.
