Kernow Grain

So I have retired from dairy farming and have 29tons of storage at Kernow Grain Bodmin that I purchased many years ago.

I want to sell my tonnage to another farmer, but I have no idea what the going rate is now corn prices have risen.

If anyone locally can give me a reasonable figure to ask it would be much appreciated.

Ask Kernow Grain what the space has traded at recently, if at all. It’s usually at a discount to new build storage as it does not have the same tax reliefs.

The only indicator of value is recent sales, or find out the current new price and deduct the tax relief.

Some stores use construction costs as a base for storage prices, others have a nominal figure and then subsidise building through charges to members and trading incomes.

As a rough guide, the price of our new space for sale has tripled during the lifetime of our store. This has meant that some retiring original members have recently sold their tonnage for double what they paid for it in the first place.

I always store more than our allocated storage in kernow however I'm not sure what I pay extra on top of the standard charges for it!
I could still be interested in it though.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
