Kids First Motorbike

Hi all.

Looking for any advice or recommendations for a first motorbike (not a quad) for my 9yr old (average height for age). Would be used for general use around farm/tracks/fields, so a range of ground conditions. I've seen the electric ones advertised, but not too sure how they cope with water/mud etc???

Has anyone got one they recommend buying or even steering clear of?

Many thanks

Back in the 90’s a Kawasaki KX60 was the one to have. Things might have changed in 25 years!

My kids are 7 and have KTM 50's next one's up are the 65. I bought mine off a guy who's kid was 11 and had to move up to the 65. But a KTM 50 is quick.
Your lad is obviously to old for a pw50 but very good starter bike a lot softer than ktm

Thanks for everyone's feedback. Will have a look into a few of the ones mentioned. My first experience of motorbikes was our first quad when I was 19, so no personal experience to call on....other than having a shot of a mates trials bike when I was about 12 and nearly killing myself.

Keen for junior to learn on 2 wheels though as I think you gain a lot from learning how to control one.

d williams - he is fairly big lad, have you any photo's though or is it advertised somewhere?

Cheers.

I think it’s a qr 50 Honda

Pw80 be a great bike, I rebuilt one for neighbours boys few years back, carried my fat arse about no problem, can’t remember their ages at the time but one of them would have been under 9

If he is a decent size a Suzuki DRZ125 is a good bike to start on as the engine is a fairly softly tuned 4 stroke.
My son started with one of those which was cheap to run. He then got a KTM85 big wheel which is a two stroke competition bike. It uses a lot more fuel and needs much more servicing but is a rocket compared to the Suzuki.

My children were 13 and 15 when I bought a Honda crf100 to save the land rover from getting wrecked:facepalm: We had many hours of fun learning to weave between a few cones on the flat then on Banks. More like trials riding than sheer speed. It gave them a good grasp of the clutch, accelerator and brake interaction.
