Davey if you decide to sell them let me know, I have a 4 year old.My boys have got the electric JD ones, tractors and now gators which they love although the 4x6 gator hasn't fared as well as the others.
I think this will be the last summer they have on them though as they are a bit big for them now, I'm looking at electric quads or trials bikes next but sadly can't buy them through JD dealer :-(
I had an old Bolens lawn tractor very well built and hydro and with track grip tyres, It was ideal for kids if you took your foot off it stopped dead, and easy to restrict speed and what they liked was actually doing work with it, thinning trees I would hook them up and my daughter would pull them to the outside, that then I could then pull several with a bigger tractor, they soon learn not to cut corners when pulling things and if something got in the way how to shunt, and she learnt trailer reversing so a hydrostatic trany the way to go, two of my friends built electric tractors for there younger kids, one using 12volt walk behind cylinder mower for motor, the other was more sophisticated using two wheel chair units as variable speed control fitted in an old stripped out Westwood. My daughter looking at a toy tractor in a shop summed it up No batteries no Brrrrrrm. over 20 something years later she and several friends cleared tons of rubbish with same 40+ year old lawn tractor and trailer,I’ve had an old Kubota mower left outside rotting for 7 or 8 years after the deck rotted out. Mechanically it was sound, 2 cylinder diesel and shaft drive hydro transmission so Done it up for the boy for Christmas, painted the appropriate colours!
yes trouble is at 'playgroup' /school there aint many farm children now ,fewer and farther between i guess but was a few more when ours were small tbf also depends on how rural your is at obviously.Well my daughter while on the farm from an early age was ether in the tractor cab or combine, as soon could reach lawn mower pedal drove that and done a good job as she took longer used a bit more petrol, had to put handkerchief under seat as not heavy enough so it didn't stop the engine, at only eight she drove grain trailers from combine to store, at an early age they get a feel for handling machinery no matter what size, and at that early age she even drove the old Cat D7 and knew what not to do, Oh we had stock and just as dangerous if you don't know how to handle them, when they first go to play grope there can be some direct answers to whats your Dad doing or I have been helping Dad. luckily I used to call it muck spreading, but have heard the best of farming.
