Just taken delivery of 2008 krone 1290, tried some fit hay yesterday but bales popped if chamber pressures over 80bar, knots good....good tails! Any advice on pressures etc?

Run Cordex Maxcord in both 8stringers and my 6 string hdp here.
Probably would have gone for the Maxcord but couldn't get it for couple of weeks so opted for 108, 11 year old baler so won't push it! First time with a Krone....do you have many problems with VFS.....bearings etc.....looks Well built...plenty of metal. Had NH 1210 before this one.....so a step up I thought.

In a normal HDP you can’t go at rocket speed if you want solid bales so 108 is fine. In a High Speed version everything moves faster so you can go faster, but bale chamber is same length so it’s not being compressed for as long, so you need Maxxcord then in my experience.

In a word..... yes. If you don’t know the history of the machine, give it an overhaul this winter. Drop the pickup off, lift the front of the baler up in the air with a loadall and drop the VFS unit out. Replace all the bearings with a good make, not genuine Krone.
Our HDP VFS fell to bits on the last day of it’s third season, we then stripped it out and replaced all the bearings every 3 years after that.

Check the gearbox mounts too.

Also look out for cracking on the steelwork that holds the pressure cylinders for the chamber.

What tractor are you running it on?

VFS has just been overhauled, new bearings etc
Can't see any cracking as yet, it's only got 39000 bales on clock it's seems to run smoothly
Have been running a NH 1210 up until now, so this is a different beast!

Pulling it with JD 6155R so won't be racing about!

You’ll be ok for a year or two then if it’s just been overhauled. Ours cracked after we sold it, about 60,000 bales. It was a 2008 machine too.
We ran 300hp on the front so we could get output as well as bale weights though.

Nowhere near enough. Forget Farmers completely.
Cordex 108 Extreme or Maxxcord. Cotesi Big Bale. Krone HDP twine.
Personally we ran our 2 on Cordex. Ring David Hart.
I agree standard Farmers 7200 not designed for that pressure, found out the hard way! I now use their Xpro, rated at 300kg knot strength, never had a problem with it.....horses for courses
