Got a 2nd hand spreader. Goes fine but from time to time throws a wobbler and opens up much more than it's set to. The rate stays the same on quantron E box but shutters open up to double or more and flow factor drops right down. Any idea what could be causing this pr am I doing something wrong? Thanks

What are you spreading? Ours is fine on Nitram or Urea, but cheap imported N it has an absolute hissy fit, it’s all over the place.
I can’t work out why, the product should make no difference.
For that fert I just manually set the flow factor and it’s fine then.

Do the shutter actuators travel through their entire range smoothly without labouring or stopping?

On a W machine the flow factor should be set/adjusted by the weight cells so it doesn't actually sound like it's a actuator problem. You can go into diagnostic if you like and just check the actuator position and feedback is ok.

The application rate won't change either unless your running VR.

What age in the machine?

its doing what its meant to do.....the weigh cells are telling it its not putting enough on so opens it up or down so that it is.....if fert is of a lesser quality it wont flow the same all the time

You should be able to tell if the fert is that inconsistent by eye. I have used loads of imported AN through mine and TBH I find it difficult to see much difference with blue bag. I doubt its the fert myself. You aren't hitting New fert instead of refill by mistake are you when reloading?

That is a possibility. Didn't think much of pressing those buttons to be fair

Its absolutely bang on with other fert. Just the imported n causing problems at the moment. It's fine if I keep eye on it and stop and reset if it goes wrong. I've just been on grass when its caused the problem so not been too worried so far

When you know rough FF put it in when you start. It will help.
Yeah but at that time it wouldn't run off that if you were using auto weighing so you had to run on manual .
They've maybe changed the software but mine always reverted back to it's own FF for a start point on auto weighing
