Kuhn front mower

Hi.
We have front and rear kuhn 313,s.
The rear one works great but the front one in heavy grass it's like the grass cant get through the conditioner fast enough and it starts wrapping around the tines. It's done it from new. It's ok in light crops and never any trouble in second cut but heavy or long grass it's a nightmare.
Has anyone had anything similar.

Do Kuhn have a 2 speed conditioner, or are they available with 2 speeds? Could it be possible it has the wrong gearing kit etc?

It has 2 speeds on the conditioner and it's set up for the fastest.

All settings between the 2 look the same.

Have seen me switching the front mower off and just using the rear and going twice the speed. Just cant see why. Was hoping someone else has had the same problem

Yes it's got nylon tines. We have just put a new set on. It's done it from new.

The only thing I can see is the swath boards are slightly closer to the tines on the front mower. There also might be a slightly bigger gap between the top of the tines and the conditioner hood but It wouldn't be much I dont think.

What input speeds are they running at? Ie could it be fitted with a 1000rpm gear box but you’re running at 540?

Aren't all front pto's 1000 speed only
And if that was the issue I'd imagine that it wouldn't cut well in any crop ass the discs would be going half the speed they should

Some older Fastracs the front PTO speed changes with the rear, sure I’ve seen 540 stickers in other tractors.
I’ve run my mowers in 540 before by accident, worked fine in a light second cut, was just making a slightly different noise, which is how I noticed.

I'm putting 1000rpm into it. It does sound as if its going fast enough might get something to measure the actual speed

If possible measure the speed of the front and rear conditioners, it may be one has different internals and it’s running slower. Could do this by turning the PTOs say 10 times by hand and counting the revs of the conditioner.

We used to run a Deere front mower same as your there is a fix for it and is availabile from Kuhn. Pm me if you want more details. We chopped it in for a set of krones end of the jamming and we cut some of the heaviest grass you will see anywhere.
