KV Tellus Go+ and Agopengps

What messages have you got the f9p sending to the xbee?

I'm about to do something similar to serial input to a Trimble screen, so will be interested to know what the issue is and what fixes it.

You may have to set the correct baudrate and frequency for the F9P to output.

Usually 38400.

Does the Tellus need configuring to tell it to use an external NMEA input?

So far I have followed the following instructions from ardusimple:

“You will have to enable the data that you want to be output via the RS232 Plugin. You can do this by configuring UART2 of ZED-F9P. If default is ok, simply go to u-center > Menu Bar > UBX-CFG-PRT > UART2 > Protocol out = NMEA”

On the Tellus the only screen I can find is the one attached but when inputting onto it nothing happens?

I’m new to gps and unfortunately I’m not great at it!

I think you need to also send the right NMEA messages to the uart2.

UBX-CFG-MSG

In the message drop down box, select the one that is NMEA GGA and then tick the box by UART2. Send and save.

You will need to check if the tellus needs other forms of NMEA. For example, agopengps uses GGA and VTG. The f9p profiles in the agopengps boards repo only sends them to uart1 and usb, so you need to tick uart2 too.

Make sure you save all settings in Ucentre,

Click on View in top menu, then 'Messages View', then 'UBX' then 'CFG' then 'CFG' then click on 'Send'

Have you got it working yet?

There is an option if you have AgOpenGPS running to export NMEA via USB cable to RS232

Just need this cable:

And this add on for AOG:

But is should be working with what you have.

You need to tell the F9P to export NMEA on the UART2 port:

Clicking on menu as follows: Messages View-UBX-CFG-PRT

Then save the settings, by clicking Messages View-UBX-CFG-MSG and copying what I've done below:

And clicking 'Send'

I’ve not got it working yet but I'm persevering. I’m going to speak to our KV dealer tomorrow whilst I’m in the tractor about what signal the Tellus requires as suggested earlier and see if I’m getting the right one.

The usb way look easy to try, my tablet only has one usb port so I guess I would need a splitter so one cable can go to the F9P and one to the Tellus

Yes a USB splitter will work. And that app export via USB is the easiest way all settings are taken care of.

So you have a tablet with AgOpenGPS running?

The Ucentre is really confusing, you'll get there!

It will just need NMEA, its just sometimes you will need to click a box to use an external NMEA source rather than the OEM's own antennae/receiver.

Did the RS232 XBee module come with any sort of user guide!
I've got the AgopenGPS bit running well as a lightbar on a FZ-G1, I'm even picking up a RTK signal from close by without needing a base station. The RS232 Xbee module didn't come with anything, the only instruction were which way to plug it in written on the back of it!

Ucentre is the most difficult bit to understand. I will have another go tomorrow and report back the outcomes!

Cracked it! Thanks everyone for their assistance

I'm running by the usb to serial port option via a null modem adapter using the GPS out link posted by @Andy26. The F9P and USB Serial Port cable is connected via an USB extender. Once the Tellus could see a signal it connected automatically.

For some reason it wouldn't have the straight RS232 option. Next job is to mount the tablet and cables neatly!

Brilliant, glad you persevered and got it going!

It will work the original way, but there's a setting not right, but not to worry now.

I find these 3D printed mounts the best for the FZ-G1, they have AMPS holes to mount a RAM ball and keep all the ports free and accessible.
