Lamb creep gate

I am trying to find on of these off the shelf, new or 2nd hand, to allow me to feed mollasses to lambs and prevent the ewes from getting to the ball feeders! Made a timber one, but the sods were going to hammer it before long....

IAE, Bateman all make them, but 3-6 week wait time.... Found a keenly priced unit in N Ireland, but they will not export!! :(

Anyone seen one in a Dealers yard, or has a redundant one in the nettles?

I have had made a pen out of 4 sheep hurdles before now. Cut some holes in a piece of plate to slip over the top of the hurdles in 2 corners to create a lamb sized gap in them and a piece of bar straight through into the ground to hold them in place.

Upturned ring feeder? Or build it better and/or out of stronger timber?
Too small a gap... or too big a gap.

2x4 might be the way to go, but the original seems to have survived the first attempts by teh ewes to get access, so maybe ok..... 🤞

Will monitor usage for a couple of days, but so far, the lambs are either unable to get in, or not interested!! Some of the ewes have put a lot into the lambs, and are pretty slim at the moment, so daren't open the gaps too wide.

Can't they wait , soon be weaning time surely?

Adapt an old field gate is what I have done .

11 or even ten inches wide was the golden figure iirc.

But position of lateral bars is just a critical.

This is my home made one, the gaps between the scaffolding pipe rollers are exactly 9".
Plain mule shearling ewes will squeeze through, I suppose if they've reared a couple of lambs, the bit of grub they nick ought'nt to be begrudged.

Update.

Dropped into Charlies in Welshpool on my way back from a ride out in Wales, and they actually have stock, and are very competitive too.... Might have a run out on Sunday morning and grab lunch on the way back :)

Any chance we could get a video of it strapped on your back, as you head off again on your bike?😂

If you’d been this side of the border a bit longer, I could have shown you how to save some money by rearranging a few boards on an old pallet and nailing a batten across it horizontally.
I haven’t used it for a few years, but the same gate worked for over a decade, tied between two hurdles.

Have you taken any land out of production from last autumn?
