Looking for an indication of land drainage costs. May need to install 300 meters of minimum 6 inch pipe. Either 6 inch non perforated with soil backfill or perforated with stones backfill

Put a load of 9 inch twin wall in today

If you go over 6 inch only option then is twin wall ,well i cant find any in coils

360ts are nice but you can get a hell of a good wheeled digger for a fraction of the cost thats fine for drainage

My costings for drainage that I've done over the last few years are as follows:

6" perforated twinwall pipe £25 per 6m length so c. £4/m for pipe
Installation by contractor (incl. stone backfill) £7/m
Roughly 6m per tonne of stone for 6"trenches @ £30/tonne for stone, so £5/m.

Rough cost £16/m for 6"
(Cost for 4" came out at £2-50/m pipe, £5/m installation, £4/m stone, so £11-12/m)

Fuel for contractor's equipment was on top, plus provision of a loading machine for stone. And haulage for bringing their machinery to site.

For a short length of 300m a contractor using a trencher is going to be expensive as the haulage is going to add a significant amount per metre. If you're doing 5k metres it only adds pence per metre.

It took me a lot of phone calls and driving around to find stone at £20 ton deliverd and itslovely clean stone at that,some wanted £40

There’s 400 ton going in my latest drainage scheme which is gravel at £26 a ton delivered.

What’s the price difference between wavy coils and 4” twin wall? Would think the twin wall would be a far better job right enough.

4” perforated twinwall £13, 6” £18, 9” £42 (Plus joiners on top). Could probably get a bit more off for multiple full packs. Don’t know best price on coils.

The quality of coils varies massively, cheapest will likely be the most expensive in the long run

Twinwall is far stronger than coil but the biggest difference/benefit is twinwall is smooth inside so keeps much inside, the ribs inside coil drainage trap and awful lot of sediment/dirt over time.
For the cost difference of £1 a metre on 6" pipe I use twinwall the majority of the time now. 3x they price for 100mm is a bit more of a difference (or seems it to customers) but I am using a fair bit of twinwall in 100mm too.

I do all of mine with 4” twinwall I find it’s so much easier to do on your own and more forgiving in the excavator . Rather than trying to unroll coils etc also more tolerant as some of mine is only at 50cm due to levels
