We used to spend a fair amount of the summer holidays hand pulling fat hen, black bindweed and redshank. Some of the fat hen was bigger than we were. Dad won a prize for best beet grower one year, maybe down to the fact he didn't knock the crop with much herbicide. :rolleyes:

We used to take 3 rows at a time. Sometimes you made good progress, sometimes it was so thick it was bloody awful, especially when the clegs came out. 5p a row or something.

No, its not a serious suggestion now other than for lightly infested crops.
