Leyland 272 "missing"

So being little more than a present farmer my frontline gear leaves a little to be desired...but hey ho I soldier on with what I've got, anyway my frontline tractor the 272 has developed a miss, diesel filters have been changed, and I put a head gasket to her last week cause I had one on the shelf and the time spare to do it(. Turned out to have a tiny blow between 2 and 3, whilst the cylinder head was off I inspected the liners and they seem good, filled the bores with diesel to confirm this and seems good plus the oil is clean and white goop free. Now back together and still got a miss, admittedly it does seem better than it was, tractor doesn't seem down on power, and sounds cracking at low rpms, but has alittle bit of white smoke. I'm seeing now towards injector issues? But would welcome some second opinions? Tractor in questions the one pictured below for those who like a picture👍

When does it miss? only at higher speed, but right from the start cold? does it change when hot?

You could loosen an injector line one at a time to see if one cylinder sounds different than the others.

I assume you checked the valve clearances after you put the head back on?

Is the tank free of contamination? I had an old excavator with a Perkins that started to run roughly at full tilt. Had the injectors out, changed filters, cleaned sediment trap and gauze on the lift pump. Thought the engine was probably shot. Had the tank inspection cover of (should have been 1st call) to find a load of watery brown sludge.

Whip out the injectors ? ..... the injectors could be stuck in the brass sleeves , could be good idea to drain coolant as the brass sleeves could come out with injectors you should have done injectors when head was removed

injectors have been out whilst the head was plained, so they should come out fairly easy now(y), didnt want to pay for them to be tested unless nessercery.....i aint made of money😂

2l of atf in the diesel tank and drive her like you stole her

does this actually work? ive heard of it being done before, but dont know of anyone whos givin it a ago.

Exhaust manifold off and have a look to see which cylinder(s) the white smoke is coming from. Swap injectors to see if the white smoke moves with the injector.

good shout, give me a little more idea whats going on(y)

going on how clean the tap filter was, im 98% sure the tanks clean, but tbh theres only maybe a gallon in the tank at the moment, so ill drain it and give it good flush to be certain.

The only things which will cause a miss fire in a diesel engine are lack of compression, or a fuel injector problem. filters etc will effect more than one cylinder, and as they will cause lack of fuel, there will be no white smoke, which is unburnt fuel. Run the engine at a speed where the miss is most noticeable, and slacken each injector pipe in turn. the faulty injector is the one where the slackened pipe makes no difference to the running of the engine. A really bad injector will cause a harsh knock, which is another clue.

If you drain the tank, remove the valve and check the screen, they're common to a lot of older tractors, so common and cheap if the screen is missing. If the screen is missing, pull apart the rest of the lines and blow them out and inspect for blockages.

sometimes ATF will work, it sure won't hurt anything on this one.

I wouldnt put ATF in anything other than an ATF gearbox. It has no detergent added to it - if you want to clean injectors - then take them out and clean them. Plus its a red colour and you dont want to be adding anything red coloured to fuel unless you are already using red diesel in a vehicle thats for agricultural use only. As Ley253 says - identify where the white smoke is coming from then take it from there - either disconnect injectors until you find out - or take manifold off and have a look.
