Anyone got any magic cures for listeriosis in sheep?

I found a fit ewe today showing text book symptoms, circling/blind in one eye/drooped on one side/dribbling. Took her to the vets at the end of the road assuming there would be some fantastic new treatment for it, as I've not had a case in about 15 years. A prolonged course of Pen & Strep was prescribed.

The ewe has never had access to silage, good or bad, in her life and was in the only group here that isn't on roots/mud yet, and grazing some old pp parkland.:scratchhead:

sorry i cant help.:(...other than the pen./ strep...dont expect any improvement though.
listeria bugs are all around in soil -in the dung on the ground also-which some people forget.
Ive had what you describe and end up dispatching also ive had the abortion - but that was through bale silage/haylage. certantainly a good subject to talk about though.

No Penicillin would be my choice too, plus a big dose of 'roids was she not pregnant. Survival - 50-50. 70-30 in cattle.

I've had the odd ones recover using amoxycillin, but suspect that was as much luck as judgement.
Catching them as early as possible is best chance. And very large dose.

Vets gave me a cow drug that I think is used for mastitis one year. You mix up 2 vials, a powder and a carrier. It worked.
Have also had success with tetracycline used at a high dose daily.

I have had a few cases, but all have survived (touch wood - I have probably spoken too soon now and will get a case tomorrow that dies.... )

Had one 2 weeks ago, seemed to come round with big first dose of pen- strep 20ml followed for four days with 10ml also gave combivit just incase B1 deficiency was going on. They don't all come around though.

We use something called Crystapen into the vein. It allows a very high concentration to be reached far faster than any other dosing regimen. Had good results.

But treating them very quickly after 1st symptoms? ...also and does it need cuts/abrasions or through the eye to get in ? .....does the rumen kill the bugs....

Had one before Xmas 10 mls oxy la every other day, 3 doses in all, rejoined flock at scanning, carrying 3!
Luckily caught early, blind and disoriented (not dribbling) usually 50/50 in my experience.

Have an old girl with twins this year had listeriosis maybe 4 years ago, full bottle of pen strep and she recovered, but has a very distant look and should have gone last year as hasn't aged as well, still listeria is not a bad name for a ewe. If dribbling hmmm not good.
