Currently 25kg/day is keeping 16 calves on ad lib so not silly amounts. By October I would expect that to double. They can usually fit in up to about 500kg so should be okay for a bit!

Thanks! Yep tbh the charolais were fine to calve really. The odd hard calving but the calves were very long and slender which helped. I used a digger son and he is very easy calving. I did assist quite a few but they were more as a precaution than actually struggling to get them out. Had as much if not more trouble calving to a lim. I think more can be levelled at the cow type in my case so I've bought 17 lim heifers this time that will calve February. And very keen on trying some saler genetics.

We don't have any heifers for sale at moment. If you contacted liz Wilde at saler society she could put you in touch with someone. I'll pm you contact details if you want?

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
