Lush spring barley

Any pics? Dare say aphid damage that occurred 3-4 weeks ago. There have been a lot of the buggers around this spring and still are.

Yea just looks like aphid damage from early in the crops life, looks worse than it is I think and that doesn’t even look that bad. We have had it bad here last 2-3 springs, always worse on later drilling’s. Aphids are v difficult to effectively control in spring crops unless you want to spray them every 3-4days. No insecticide will move into new growth and the way spring Barley especially grows you could have a new and unprotected leaf out the day after you spray.with the levels of beneficial insects on the ground this year I let them do the work, they haven’t got them all but they were never going to. They don’t look any worse than sprayed crops and the insects are still alive...
Don’t think you’ll see any big yield penalties from those photos.

Approaching t2....any recommendations what to add to my 1l ctl.....had eclipse at t1 so I was thinking of straight proline or something with prothioconazole in a mix....want to keep the cost low as possible. Crop is very clean at the minute

Yea I agree prothio the way to go with barley, either the straight at 0.35-0.4 or a strobe or sdhi co form will give you better all round disease control especially on net blotch. Fandango (0.75litre) or Siltra (0.4-0.5) are good products and decent value at those sort of rates. I’m sure there are other similar depending where you buy.. 1litre ctl an important addition as you say.

We had a variety years ago, Blenheim I think it was, where about half the leaves at a certain stage of growth went bright yellow but the newer leaf (leaves) were perfectly fine. Crops all round the area, mainly Blenheim, were similarly affected. General concensus was BYDV in a particular weather window and then no more aphids after that. Crops looked hellish for a while but yielded fine in the end.

Is spring barley worth doing a second fungicide?

I've a good crop here that's worth keeping going.....but equally don't want to over spend for the sake of it. It's had Siltra first, with 1l CTL a week later just as awns were starting to peek out.

Definitely going on here.
0.4lt swift, 1lt CTL at T1 but seeing the odd bit of rhyncho now at awns peeping stage.
Weather the past few weeks been ideal for it.

Anyone know how rainfast vivax is? Heavy shower came across when i was spraying this afternoon . Only lasted a minute but heavy.

The PGR? Chlormequat needs a couple of hours. The ethephon is rain fast quicker. It will be fine. I’ll buy you a pint if it goes flat. :)

Hopefully not. It was for a neighbour/friend. So felt a bit bad. Had been showers going about all day and missed them but caught that one.

Hopefully meet you at groundswell. Is there going to be tff badges so we know who we all are!?
