I had a very enjoyable day on Friday judging maize crops for Usk Show around parts of Monmouthshire and Forest of Dean part of Gloucestershire. Didn't see a poor crop which made for some head scratching at the end of the day. Also, just had enough time for a look around Hunt Seeds at Plusterwine which was a real treat. Well done to the maize growers in that area and a big thank you to the show secretary for the invite. (y)

We have been slowly been getting our silage crop up this year between the rains. Get a 2 or three day stretch and cover the pile up again before more rain. This year we are chopping 400 acres and has been averaging about 15-16 ton an acre wet.

How many acres/hectares would you hope to cut a day with the drag forager @Farmer_1994 ? Don't think I've ever seen one working over here!

Like the machinery. Holy cow - 400acres of maize through a trailed harvester!

Not sure if this is a record but....
Had 6 12t trailer loads off of 7 acres [emoji15]
Would guess about 6t an acre.

Luckily rest of fields weren’t as bad as that.

I wouldnt be as down as that, we weighed our trailers and there were incredibly heavy.

Our 12 ton westerns full had 13 ton in them.

Yours on that basis could have done 11 ton.

Did our first lot yesterday . Struggled to do 15 ton , which considering how well it looked and grew early on, is disappointing . But it’s on light land and this part of Shropshire missed even the little bits of rain we had .
Still some to do for AD
