I have Quickbooks and can't get on with it

Two quarters now.

What used to be an hour every quarter entering invoices and VAT on purchases and sales in my book and submitting online now is a week of trauma and an accountant checking I've posted it all right and charging for the privilege

It's so called progress but I can't see it myself

Do you have to submit copies of invoices too

I am on quickbooks and signed up in 2019 when our turnover needed to be done via spreadsheet/ computer program, I tried both quickbooks and xero free trial at that stage there was not much between them honestly. Once you get the hang of the program it is quicker, but it will take time (it is just that during that period you will question the sanity of progress/modern technology).

Try ANNA. The VAT submission is free. HMRC approved bridging software.

Both Quickbooks and Xero have the facility to scan the paper invoice or a phone picture and attach it to the account, or you can attach a pdf of the invoice directly from email. It's so easy.

Xero can also read some invoices so you don't even have to enter the details . (QB might be able to also?)

I attach the original invoice for completeness so the accountant can view it if needed. I then shred it if it was a paper copy...

It's now £26 / month but the speed efficiency and really being able to critique your business enterprises is easily worth the money.

I’ve had to do this for mum and dads accounts- I thought it was going to be a nightmare and dreaded it - but, I’m still doing it on paper sheets and have signed up to 123sheets. I was delighted how easy it was. Their accounts just don’t justify signing up to quickbooks which we use for our own accounts

Happy enough on QB here, but would have much preferred to have been able to stop on my old 2016 desktop version. Costs £12/month, which I suppose isn’t much in the grand scheme of things, but the old program was a one off cost of £85.😡

No although I'm told MTD from April 24 will require a posting linking / matching to a bank transaction to be VAT reclaim qualifying

I believe even QB aren't there yet with this
I been trying all day to get to grips with transactions.
Got all onto system linked bank and HMRC ok seems but the bit to add thereafter to quickbooks and tag or categorize and vat types struggling?
Also invoices that state 1 total due but are mix of zero and 20% vat items
