Hi

Aware that Makita have a good reputation for power tools, but are their hand tools any good?

Want a socket and spanner set to keep in the truck and this has caught my eye:

Cheers

I'm not sure what sort of "home" the Makita guys live in but I'd have thought drill bits would be more handy than a 1/2" socket set.

I`ve an older Halfords set and like it. If you can wait the 150 piece set may come on offer at some point - guess it all depends how much you want to spend!
They have had various offers over the years - depends if you can wait, or maybe you`re happy to spend 175 piece set type of money.
Worth having a look if you are interested, they need a bit of space.

All my power tools are Makita, but I wouldn't buy that home kit...
You Need various options for any home: screwdrivers, spanners, sockets, electrical meters etc - that kit is simply for people who do not want to think about the needs of the home imho, and then buy additional necessary items.. So the cheaper home kit starts to look expensive.

It's full of bits... I'd be looking at something like this Bahco

I have a mix of Bahco and Halfords Pro and the odd piece of Teng.

I have the 2 smaller Bahco sets that live in the car.
bahco hsave good stuff but the catches on that type of box are not the best. i have 2-- a 1/2" and a 3/8" drives, would buy them again.

I’ve been looking at these Makita ones for a while to keep in the van, look good value, but the Bahco one above looks good too!

i think thats the set i have lives in my van, I got it on offer in local steel stockists for about 80 a while ago, its a handy set, I went needing a torq bit that i had broken and it was either a teng torq set for about 40 or that so was a bit of a no brainer.

Decent warranty on the Bahco stuff as well.. All my Bahco at the time was cheaper than the Halfords stuff discounted.

Halfords do Bahco sets now but even with discount, it's cheaper elsewhere.

I have had two of the Makita drill accessory kits - bits, screwdriver bits, hole saw etc, about £20 - and have found the quality to be ok for diy use.
For workshop use I would go for something a bit better
Good value for what they are

I’ve had a Halfords socket set for years. All still present and working. Only issue with it now is the plastic case is falling to bits. The hinges about had it and only one catch that just about holds it shut. Might have to find an alternative method of storing sockets - preferably in order! Currently lives in a JCB toolbox with impact socket set and Milwaukee impact tool and stops sockets being scattered in such as back of pickup.

Bought some of these after the plastics insert in the tin box of my Clark set fell to pieces.

Yes I’d seen them on eBay. The plastic box keeps the sockets in place but it’s if someone picks the case up without realising the case won’t stay shut. Sockets go off in all directions and I have to find my reading glasses so they can be put back in order. Can’t have sockets all mixed up
