Massey 4wd clutch pack cost

Just had new vicious fan fitted on 7620 4300hrs , 3 days later lost 4 wd the lights are the on dash saying it’s in 4 wd but it’s not, dealer has said 4wd clutch packs knackered cost quoted approx £5,000 does this sound expensive or what it does cost?

Sounds bloody expensive to me for what is a simple job that doesn't require the tractor to be split. Or it certainly didn't on mine when it failed due to a cracked pack housing. It was on a 5445, so much lighter duty than on a 7620 and the repair procedure may not be quite the same, I don't know that.

However, usually these packs fail with the 4wd permanently on and failing to disengage, because they are spring-on and pressure-off in order to be failsafe. It hasn't seized the pack either, or again it would seize on not off. Someone more knowledgable may be able to shed more light on your particular problem but have they actually seen the tractor and eliminated the simple things like a stuck solenoid or no current to the solenoid or the valve under the solenoid stuck?

They said if the solenoid had failed it would be stuck in 4 wd

Slightly different problem but related...According to this thread,it'll need splitting and the OP was glad to have had warranty coverage...

Mf 7620 4wd slipping

on sumo trio and slipping with a light on in cab saying filter blocked any ideas why appreciated

Was about that money for a 6495 6yrs ago.
Has to be split under the cab, so more grief than a split in front of the cab

These bigger models must have a different design to the smaller ones in the range. The whole clutch pack was replaced on mine without splitting the tractor and at a fraction of the cost mentioned.

Sounds about right, time will be a killer , costs 3 k just to pull it apart and put it back together + parts
