Update, and back to the heater.
Took it for a good run today, best part of 2 hours and still only getting warm air. Also noticed the bottom hose to the rad is stone cold. The temp gauge barely moves and I had assumed it was faulty but maybe not. Looks like I'm going to have to investigate further.
Something else, if you have the matrix/fan unit out, be sure to replace the foam strips where the unit fits against the roof or they vibrate badly.
after a 2 hour run, bottom hose would normally have warmed I would have thought , if the tractor thermostat had opened, maybe blank off the rad with a plastic sack or cardboard and keep eye out to avoid overheating , but in cold weather used to be common practice to blank off , or parially blank off the rads anyway in winter
Relatively inexpensive to change the thermostat , then if thats doesnt change things replace waterpump, or take apart as the exit port in the pump often gets full of crud, and partially blocked, I imagine my 575 needs this new waterpump because as the heater is only red hot in the cab, but only when the engine is flat out 2000 rpm achieving max flow in the pump I imagine.
A little more progress...
The ceiling panel in mine was in a horrible state and not really recoverable. The price for the replacement, plus all the glue hassle made me look elsewhere.
I ended up buying a 2 square metre sheet of 10mm self adhesive sound deadening foam for £20.
Once I'd scraped all the old foam and glue off the ceiling just cut and fit. There was enough to do the side panels as well, and a 10mm strip works perfectly to run up each side of the lower rear window. If I take the matrix out again I'll probably use it for the rubbing strips as well.
And I've got enough left over to do it again if need be!
Not great pics gives an idea.
While we're in the cab I'm looking for a supplier for a couple of cab decals.
One is an 8 speed chart for an engine pto speed of 1685rpm, the other is a pto 'live-n-ground' engagement decal that goes on the metal plate behind the lever.
Any pointers appreciated.
Took the cover off the outside to get to the cab filter, 20 mins of hoover/airline/screwdriver/mask/coughing got most of the crud out. Looking inside, a couple of inches behind the cover screw threads, there is a small bracket each side with a captive or welded nut on the back - no bolt or any trace of what may have been attached. Any ideas of what may be missing?
And two more threaded holes. This time in the forward face of cab lower rear crossmember, just left of center. I've seen them on other 500s but nothing attached. Uses?
