Massey 6265 damper plate splitting?

I think the damper plate has gone, it made a horrible noise like bits flying around so I turned it off, now it's locked solid won't offer to turn over.

Anyway gone to split it and it's not wheeling apart like normal, opened easy for few MMS, then rocked it and got it to the 1" mark but seems tight. Flywheel turns with big screwdriver easy enough in neutral etc (not that it matters)

If it’s opened an inch then the damper hub has cleared the gearbox input shaft and therefore technically nothing should hold it. It’s possible one if the damper springs is wedging between flywheel and bellhousing, it’s what most probably locked the engine from turning. You will need to try to jack it up and down a bit to rattle it free

Is it quite common, I've read on here my ... Has never been same since damper gone, it makes noise when overrunning I wonder if that's a bent shaft? Wouldn't you think flywheel wouldn't turn if something wedging it?

Should think spigot bearing a stuck on gearbox shaft if you can it far enough apart you might have to unbolt damper from flywheel

Had to do this on a 698t Massey a few years ago, luckily that has an inspection hole under the bell housing which made it easier. Very similar situation just would not part.

That's interesting.

My 6480 did exactly the same after damper plate done. Never got to bottom of it
Be interested to know what's causing it.

It might be your post I had read?
Did they struggle to open your tractor?
Bent shaft was my guess if they've jacked it up and down a lot.
We've always just wheeled them apart with a little rocking.
This bugger won't open

It was the noise on over run I meant. I wasn't brave/skilled enough to tackle it myself!

It's not something annoying like the loader brackets fouling on the tracor or a bit of dirt in the splitter rail stopping it from coming open?

The first time I split our loader tractor (dry clutch) I put the handbrake firmly on and used a ratchet strap joined from the weight block to another parked tractor to split it as it was a bit stubborn. Pulled apart easily enough that way. Otherwise tyre levers or wedges or jacks as a last resort??

No brackets are away, be a fare job to take the buggers off aswell.

I have a strap onto digger but don't want to force it. It was pulling front backwards with strap aswell.

I'm thinking of making wood wedges and pushing them in as shaking it to keep getting few MMS.

At the 35mm mark after 4 hours!!!
It's strapped to shed at front and 2 straps to digger at back hellish pressure been jumping on straps lowering and lifting jack's
When rotating flywheel it makes the gap at 1 side bigger and you can follow this around as you turn it.
(Like a bent shaft)

Will I benefit anything if I take the 4 Allen bolts out? Can I split it 4" further back and in the gearbox.

Never had 1 not split!!!!
Any ideas???
Or even a full diagram please

And petrol?
Or did you mean to cut the bugger!!!
Cut the shaft really but possibly the other🙄.

I guess you have chucked loads of penetrating oil into that area?
If something has welded itself together inside there with no access I am afraid it’s heavy duty “BIG” long pry bars each side or cut the shaft and lessen the possibility of greater damages. Can you get anything in there to cut the shaft?

No you can't get near my delicate hand just fits through starter hole to feel bolts in flywheel.

As for gas axe you'd not get near and you'd blow all seals.

Penetrating oil yes but it's hit and hope!

I'm actually planning to bend a spanner to 90 degrees, weld 1/2 extension to it so it's an L shape and in through starter hole to try undo bolts in flywheel??
How many bolts and what size?
Better get a replacement snap on ordered!!!!
