Tried to adjust the standby pressure today, but a small movement of the adjusting screw would take the pressure from nothing to 2500. Removed compensator valve again and stripped. Just below the point of the arrow in your diagram named hitch signal is a screwed in plug. I was able to remove this plug this time, in it is a less than one millimetre orifice that was plugged with a tiny sliver of wood. Just hoping that this has been the problem, keeping fingers crossed.

Hi Gapples, Many thanks for the copy of the service bulletin etc. just wonder if you have a service bulletin for the newer 5150 plus as there are some differences with the compensator. I found another problem yesterday, the sensor pipe that goes to the steering valve has a tiny hole in the end where it screws onto the fitting on the steering valve, this hole was blocked, but clearing it did not help with setting the the standby pressure. Problem still a mystery.A bit more information on compensator & setting it up.

Would the steering spool be sticking in the compensator valve?
You mentioned the pressure goes from 0 - 2500 so the tightening of the spring has no affect?

At long last sorted the problem, as posted yesterday found the tiny orifice at the end of the pipe at the steering valve was blocked. Cleared it and blew through with the airline. Connected all the pipes again, no improvement. Went back to that orifice today, blocked again, spent more time with airline and mig welding wire to try to clear pipe again but I think there is a shoulder where the steel pipe joins the hydraulic pipe so difficult to get a wire through. Also nearly impossible to remove the pipe. Anyway put all the pipes back on and standby pressure tested just about perfectly. Just the steering and main pressures to adjust and bingo. Many thanks to Gapples and all the others that have helped.

just straying off at a tangent I can recall in the early Maxxum days that they would lose drive if the steering was turned too quick, the local mod was to take a worn out 4" grinding disc and just slightly modify the flutes in the priority valve to help with a bit of bleed thru

Hi,I thought the diagram you had was foward neutral reverse shuttle beside the steering wheel,I'm changing mine from foward/neutral to foward neutral reverse and it would of been handy to follow itHi lads, the pdf I have covers the compensator valve, not any wiring. what problems are you having ? I might well have a wiring diagram covering the area you need.
It won't be pdf though.
