Lads found a dead cat on the side of the street one Saturday night. They picked it up, walked into the Chinese, pushed to the front of the que, slapped it down on the counter and said at the top of their voice, ‘ and that’s the last your getting until you’ve paid for the others’.............the guy who told me swears it’s a true story as he was there..............although he wouldn’t confess to being the one who’d picked up the dead cat.
It is a true story and happened in Aberystwyth a few days after a number of lads were thrown out for being a bit rowdy. However the story has sort of gone viral since and there are many different versions, mostly untrue, that have just morphed and grown over the years.
I remember years ago going to a Chinese in Aberystwyth where the very packed customers were locked in and a guard with a very large hatchet stood in front of the door ensuring that nobody left without paying. When a table was vacated, the covering was shaken down and replaced quickly and another lot let in from the street. What I'll never forget is that there was this lad sat by the elevator where dirty plates were piled up ready to be loaded and elevated to the kitchen/washroom. He went down through the pile and any leftovers he would transfer to his own plate. This went on for about an hour until he'd had enough. Someone threw a pint, which soaked the back of one of my mates sitting next to me.
What a dump that was! It was about 30 years ago now probably but the restaurant probably still exists. It was 'The Light of Asia', which must be under new management by now. This wasn't the same place where the dead cat was left on the counter. That was a slightly more upmarket establishment, whose name I forget but do remember having to climb stairs to get to the table area.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
