Thanks for the info guys id rather stick to a fixed chamber roller baler as ive always had these. For you expert machinery boys out there what value would you put on a 2013 welger 245 40000 bales very tidy and well maintained new chains at 30000 all round
Probably £10k from a main dealer,£8k for private sale if its tidy enough.

If you want properly heavy dense bales, demo a Krone Comprima v150.

Side by side last summer in the same field as a McHale, the Krone packed more in and made bales that were a better shape for the wrapper.

Krone backs their machines with a 3 year 30,000 bale warranty.

The expensive Irish green baler is a good copy of others, but it's not the best.

So how much is a Krone and how much are replacement belts? Be interested to see how it performs on straw.

Current prices you'll need to ask a Krone dealer. Mine was thousands less than a McHale at the time

Krone holds the world baling speed record in straw if that helps answer the last question. Bales are lovely shaped, it'll bale everything from straw walker to smashed up dust or of an axial flow, and they're heavy.

as said about 8-10k, when I was looking there were plenty about and a lot seem to be traded in at between 30-40000 bales, and if pushed at contracting will be tired, yours might be worth more if not pushed as hard. I find the secondhand baler market flooded but a good one would command a bit more money easy enough, buyers market.

as u say has to be changed sometime so if a dealer prepared to talk what u think is sense and u can manage it now would be as good a time as any, the make really shouldn't make much of a difference if only running to 30-400000 bales. only 8000 a year, its hardy stressed work for any of the big manufacturers and the baler u are thinking of would be light with electrics so reliable on that front from what I was told.

€800 will sort out a Mchale , €800 would only be a deposit to sort out a krone.

The machinery dealership part of the McHales family will happily refurbish old balers over the winter and make a penny or two in doing so, and they claim to pay the same as everyone else for the parts, which are easily available for all machines, or so I was told when I visited the factory.

I deal with hundreds of contractors here who run balers and the feed back is if your out for hire it's either a Mchale or a welger. The contractors here who make over 50-60,000 bales every season all run mchales .
So you don't run both machines yourself and your just relying on conjecture and my mate says? I'll stick to facts. Absolutely nothing to do with the Irish buying Irish kit? Same as the Germans predominantly buy Fendt? Or the French and Kuhn?

Talking to a local contractor friend the other night , has ran a new krone variable chamber baler since 2014 , did deal to change before Xmas and has bought new v660 , krone were thousands out over whole deal which surprised him greatly seeing as they were trading out their own product.

When we changed from NH to McHale a couple of years back Krone weren’t even in the same parish on pricing.

Even the local Krone dealer was pushing McHale which says it all to me!

TBF the McHales and Welger bakers are widely considered as being the best for conditions over here, it's not just a matter of national pride, although that helps.

It was similar here years ago, and I'm not denying the McHale is a damned good baler, I just prefer the Krone.

This kinda crosses over to the the tractor brand thread, people have their preferences, and so they should, it would be a dull old world if we didn't.

One brand coming to dominate the market is not a healthy situation, it stifles innovation and can influence the independence of the press if there is nothing out there for it to be tested against. I bow to no one in my admiration for what McHales has achieved, but sometimes I do feel that they could do with some serious competition over here.
