Medicine costs

Speak to your vet/practice manager, if no joy, then move practice.
We need our vets, and although I buy companion animal meds via a script from my vet, it is with their, and on their recommendation.

That is not a route to go down with veterinary medicines.

We already have a shortage of new vets coming into Large animal practice, and screwing them down on veterinary meds will only in the long run hurt the farmer.

That would be great in an ideal world but I'm afraid with prescription meds and all the 'hoo-har' with over use of AB's, I can't see it being workable.
Large animal vets are getting too thin on the ground and good ones need supporting but unfortunately some of them see prescription meds as a licence to print money.

Not really.
You can get basis and walk your own crops within 12 months with a distance learning course.
It's 7 years to Become a vet.

Might be a possibility with some of the vaccines etc though

I was thinking g none prescription really - I imagine it would be far to hard to do prescription stuff online

There are already some none prescription meds on Farm marketplace it’s the range of those I would like to expand and get access to better prices on

Not a subject I know a lot about as a arable farmer though so happy to be guided by those that know. If you think there is any way FMP or I can help let me know

From a sheep point of view, I would think vaccines, wormers and fly control products would be the obvious choices.
With the amount of sheep producers on TFF, I'd say there would be a massive market out there. The problem (having just had a quick look) is the prices on Farm Marketplace - they are a fair way out of line.

Who are the best suppliers of those products and I will get in touch with them re becoming FMP vendors ?

These are not products where I know the difference between good / bad prices ...... yet !

I did do - he told me the price over the phone. Said it was expensive because they don't stock it and they had to buy in just the one bottle for me. I can understand this HOWEVER its been the same with the last 4 or 5 bottles of things I've ordered - all of them more expensive than other local and not so local farmer friends.
Can I ask what you nedded that they didn't stock?

I discovered that a drug I was buying from our vet was quite a bit cheaper from another practice. I spoke to the drug rep. (family relation) and he said the other practice bought a lot more and therefore got a bigger discount.

With us bigger users and those with contracts get better prices than the little guys. It sound mean, but it's the only way of being fair (buy toilet rolls in 2's from the corner shop or in bulk from the cash and carry - it's the same Andrex toilet roll.......
Lower prices for big guys.
Is this not encouraging them to use more? After all it's 'cheap'. More misuse?

No, I don't think so. These are the farms we are on regularly (at least monthly routine visits, some will see a vet more than once a week). These are the guys using things properly and buying into prevention and best practice. On a per animal basis they are usually using vastly less drugs to treat actual disease.

Is Tetroxy still on the market?
My vet hasn't stocked it for a number of years now

I tried to order some from Vet Drugs To Go last week and got told the same as above.
Is still less than £10?
It used to be a very reasonably priced source of oxytetracycline.

Is Tetroxy LA not just oxytetracycline?:scratchhead: It's still available under lots of different brand names. One of which is Alamycin LA, which I see has just gone up to £9/100ml from our vet practice.

Yup. Handed out like sweets to the backpackers out here for chlamydia [emoji23] could be a sideline
